“Enjoy my show and laugh!” – that´s how Clowny, the happy clown, used to begin his performance.

Every year children and adults from everywhere went to see him act, every kid but Alice who wasn´t happy there because she was scared of clowns.

Her little sister, Anna, tried to calm her: “Don´t worry Alice, clowns only want to make us laugh“, but neither her sister’s nor her parents’ advice helped Alice to feel better.

Clowny jumped up and down and enjoyed seeing the children´s happy faces, but he could see, in the third row, a girl hiding her face between her father´s arms. It was Alice.

When Clowny saw her, he knew exactly what was going on because it was not the first time he had seen a kid like that, but he wanted Alice to enjoy his show, so he hatched a plan.

He called some kids onstage, and Alice was among them, and he also called her mother and sister to encourage her.

When they all were on the stage, Clowny took out some musical instruments and gave them to the kids. Alice was so entertained playing the saxophone that she didn´t notice Clowny smiling and congratulating her for her talent and effort.

But when she finally saw his honest look and broad smile, she realised he was a good clown and forgot all her fears. “Thanks for calling me up onstage, Clowny. I was very scared of you, but now I know you are good and your intention is to make us happy and learn nice things, so I won´t be scared of clowns any more”.

When the teacher asked her about the weekend, Alice told her the story of being with Clowny, the happy clown, and how she had discovered that clowns only want to make kids happy.

THE END

Once upon a time there was a clown called Jobst who really loved to act in the circus and could never wait until it was his turn to start his performance.

He was so impatient that he always started acting before the circus had opened to the public and then used to start crying when he realised that nobody was there.

This happened everyday, and so when it was the real moment to start his performance, he was not in the mood to act.

Mary, the trapeze artist, went to talk to Jobst. “You need to be more patient. We need you, if you don’t act when it is your turn we won´t be a complete circus“.

Jobst understood Mary, and realised that he had to be more patient so as to not affect his mates´ work.

The next day, Jobst waited until it was his turn to act and made all the children laugh and have fun during his performance.

THE END

The moral of the story: Be patient.

Once upon a time there was a clown who really loved swimming. He participated in important competitions all over the world.

He was a very good swimmer and he also dressed up as a clown in competitions, and that´s why everyone knew him as the swimmer clown.

He was one of the best swimmers in the world, actually, and he won any competition he wanted, nevertheless, everybody knew what he did in every competition.

The swimmer clown always stopped at the last moment to let the second swimmer win.

People wondered why, but he never said anything.

Until one day at a press conference, a journalist asked him: “We love your circus performance and the way to let others win, but we don´t understand why you do it if you’re the best swimmer in the world?”

The swimmer clown answered: “It´s not about a circus performance, it´s about the value of being kind to people”.

The journalists were open mouthed and the next day the newspaper headlines were: “The swimmer clown, the kindest person in the world!”.

The swimmer clown felt better being kind than winning competitions, and he conquered everyone’s heart.

THE END

Short Story written by: Ana Maria Amarfil

Every year a Big circus comes to the city, We the children are anxious to see the big lion opening his big mouth and showing his teeth.

The lion tamer is a tall, young man that puts his head into the lion´s mouth while all the women and children scream.

We all think that the lion is going to bite him, but the young tamer takes his head out of the lion´s mouth and smiles and we all feel relieved.

The tamer talks to the Lion before every performance and it looks like the animal understands him as it roars and moving its head.

I think they are very good friends because of the way they understand each other. The tamer uses the whip during each performance, cracking it against the floor, and the sound makes the lion obey him.

Later Mike the magician appears, dressed in a black suit and he makes a green toucan with blue wings disappear inside a hat. Then the magician says some magic words and the green toucan reappears.

I also like the little, long tail monkeys dressed up as a clowns in striped suits. The clown is a fat man who plays with three other clowns. They make the little monkeys play and jump, and it is really funny because the little monkeys are very funny and disobedient.

THE END

There was once a clown called Cuthbert who would often ask a child from the audience to come up on stage with him.

Every day before starting the show, Cuthbert the clown would put on his red shoes, which were twice as big as his feet, and stick on his red nose. The circus music started to play and the procession of clowns began. A whole pile of clowns began streaming out of a fire engine – one, two, three, as many as fifteen clowns!! They were all dressed up as firemen and when they were all on stage, Cuthbert ordered all the lights to go off and just one spotlight to choose which child would come on stage today. There was a drum roll, and the spotlight fell on its chosen child.

Charlie, for that was the name of the lucky boy, ran out on stage to the clowns. Cuthbert asked him, “Are you ready to start the mission?” to which Charlie answered: “Yes I am!!”

At that moment, Cuthbert took out a red sponge nose and put it on Charlie’s face. Such was his surprise when all the audience started to laugh at the funny sight of the little boy and the big red nose.

But suddenly the little boy began to look upset, for he felt as though everyone was laughing at him. In another moment, he had burst into tears and tore off the nose that Cuthbert the clown had given him, running out of the circus as fast as he could.

Everyone waited to see what would happen next. But the clowns went on with the show, whilst Cuthbert went to look for Charlie whom he found hiding at the back of the big top.

“Charlie, why are you crying?” asked Cuthbert the clown kindly.

“Because everyone was laughing at me!” replied Charlie between sobs.

Then Cuthbert understood why Charlie was feeling so upset and said: “Charlie, when I come out on stage to act, do you laugh?”

“Yes…” answered the boy.

“Exactly. That’s my job, to make people laugh. And that’s what you did tonight. You made the audience laugh and that’s a wonderful thing,” Cuthbert told Charlie. And little by little, as he listened to the clown, Charlie stopped crying.

The little boy asked: “So… they weren’t laughing at me?”

“Not at all!! They were laughing with you. They’ve come here to have a great time and laugh until their sides split.”

Then Charlie understood that perhaps it’s not a bad thing to feel silly because someone puts a clown’s nose on you. The most important thing of all is to make people laugh – and to do that you have to learn to laugh at yourself.

THE END

At the circus there’s a clown called Clarence and it’s his job to make the audience laugh. But one day, just as the show was about to begin, Clarence felt sad and didn’t much feel like going out on stage…

Passing at that moment outside his dressing room, his friend the acrobat stopped to talk to him: “Hi Clarence! Ready to get out on stage?” he called.

That was when the acrobat realised something was wrong with Clarence the clown, for although his face had a big smile painted on it and he was wearing a jolly red nose, his eyes were sad… “What’s up, my friend?” asked the acrobat.

Clarence the clown answered: “Well…I’m sad because I’ve lost my lucky flower and I can’t go on stage without it…” “But Clarence, my friend, it’s just a flower. The only hero here is you. Who else will get all those children laughing till the tears run down their cheeks? The flower? Definitely not! The children are waiting for you; they want to see you be silly, and to keep falling over!!”

Without another word, the acrobat left Clarence’s dressing room, leaving him very surprised at the acrobat’s mysterious exit.

It was now a few minutes before Clarence’s performance, and the children had already begun shouting for the clowns. At that very moment, Clarence’s dressing room door burst open and the acrobat appeared, holding a flower in his hand: “Clarence”, he said, “this flower will bring you luck. I picked it from the field outside the circus just for you. I know it’s not your flower, but I know it will bring you all the strength you need… It’s magic, you know…”

“Thank you so much“, said Clarence to the acrobat, “I’m glad that you’re my friend”.

Then Clarence the clown realised that he didn’t need to rely on a lucky charm – he only needed to trust in himself. He also realised that good friends like the acrobat make life easier when we see it as difficult.

“And now it’s on with the show!!! Bring on the clowns!!”

THE END
