Short Story for Kids written by: Catalina.

Once upon a time, there were two friends called Vela and Lily, who were always together until one day, due to a study commission in class, Vela was sent to sit beside another girl who was called Poppy.

They soon laughed together, and when Lily went to Vela´s house she was with Poppy, laughing and playing. Poppy didn´t even noticed when Lily arrived. So Lily went home really sad, looked at the picture of them playing in the park, then went to bed and didn´t want anything.

Vela called her and said:

– “Hi Lily, can I go to your house? Poppy just left and I want to see you. My mum told me you were at home”.

– “Yes I am whilst you were with poppy” – Vela said with vengeful tone.

– “Well, can I come?”

– “Yes, sure, come, but…Are you a friend of Poppy?”

-“Yes”

Lily became furious, but said with her normal voice:

– “Ok, I will wait for you”

– “See you later”.

Lily was angrier than a giant ogre, but she simply took a pillow, put it against the wall, relaxed and watched TV. She was watching “My little pony” when Vela arrived, and Lily said:

– “Oh, hi! Come in Vela, let´s watch My little Pony“.

-“Ok” – and they settled in front of the TV.

After a while, Poppy went to Lily´s house, and said:

– “Hi Vela”.

Vela got off her bed and left with Poppy. Lily felt guilty and angry at the same time. She threw her bag to the floor, and went to bed and little by little forgot all about it.

Next Monday, they went to school and Lily put itching powder on Poppy´s chair. Lily laughed, but not too much.

Poppy sat down and began to scratch and jumped up crazily from the chair. Everybody except Vela mocked her, especially Lily, who laughed even more. Vela said:

-“Don´t tease Poppy.”

But Lily ignored her and continued to laugh. Vela sat down feeling very offended.

After a long time they forgave each other and the three of them became friends. Vela had a Wii, so they were all entertained playing many games. They had so much fun and never fought again.

THE END

Short Story for Kids written by: Karen Stefany Gonzalez Orellana.

One upon a time there was a girl called Caroline. Her and her mother had to move to another country due to family trouble.

They arrived to the Caribbean where had a very nice welcome. The girl had to go to school, so her mom enrolled her in Saint Mary´s School.

The girl went to school next morning, but Caroline did not speak to anybody, all her class mates were playing except her. The girl asked them to play, but ignored her.

The second day nobody went with Caroline either, but the third day, a girl called Katy began to be her friend.

They were together every day and had so much fun. But one day had a fight and the Principal punished them.

Time passed, Caroline and katy were adults. One day, Caroline went to work as everyday, when saw Katy. They were shocked, so happy to see each other again. After a long conversation, Caroline invited Katy for dinner at her house.

They talked about their childhood during dinner, were very happy remembering their beautiful friendship when were kids.

They met each other again the next day, and apologyzed for that arument in school. They reconciled and were together the rest of their life, grew old together and lived happily ever after.

And that is the end of the story…

Moral of the Short Story: Never fight, talk about the problem to solve it, speaking. Friendship has to last.

Values of the Short Story: Respect, friendship.

Short Story written by: Zoila Mariano Faillace

There were three friends who really liked spend time together, but one of them was black, and wanted to be white. One of his friends investigated how to turn his friend into a white kid, and found out that there was faraway town where the sea could change the skin color of those swimming in it.

He said to his friend:

“I know how to turn you white”

And the friend said:

“Really? how?”

“We have to travel to a place where the sea can change your color”

And the friend said: “So, let´s go!”

The three friends began their trip, first by train, had complicated moments, until finally reached the place they had talked about.

What a surprise when realized that the sea was a chocolate sea, were excited and got swept up in their wishes, and two of them ended up in the chocolate sea, eating that delicious chocolate.

“friends, go out, so I can go inside to change my color”

They said: “come in, we will swim together”

He went into the sea, later, when they all were satisfied, went out, and the white kids realized that they were the ones that had changed their color instead of the black kid, they began to cry and said:

“We are so sorry, we just wanted you to be like us, God, help us to solve this, we will respect people as they are, we did not realize that what is in the heart is what matters”.

Little by little, the chocolate on their bodies was melting. They looked to the sky and said thanks to God. The kids learnt the lesson.

THE END

Moral of the story: Skin color does not matter, what matters is how we are inside our hearts. Religion, skin color or habits do not matter.

Short Story written by: Viviana Martinez (Colombia)

Hi mum, I am going to tell you something that happened to me today at nursery school. Imagine for a minute that I was the new girl at school and everybody saw me differently but that I was in the middle of everything; Do you know what, mummy?, I met a skinny girl, with long, black hair like Rapunzel´s, but also curly. She has chocolate coloured skin and a heart full of love and happiness, and she hugged me with her soft arms.

Today, we played on the swings. I pushed her first and then she did the same for me. We ran around the fields and ate a huge raisin ice-cream, the one I really like. Then, we ate a soup like the soup you usually cook for me with delicious blackberry juice.

The teacher laid us on a feather mattress and we closed our eyes little by little, while nice music was playing and so we slept like angels for an hour.

Then we opened our eyes slowly, thanks to our teacher, who carefully whispered us: “It´s time to wake up, it´s time to wake up”.

We stretched out and went to have a snack. It was a glass with milk that had something at the bottom, which I later discovered were corn grains. I tasted it, but I didn’t like it. But, as you had told me this morning that I had to eat everything, I closed my eyes, opened my mouth and drank it.

We went back to the hall and our teacher combed our hair and organized the end of the school day. While she was making my braid, I asked her why Juliet’s skin was coloured like chocolate, and mine was white like snow and I wondered if I had to eat lots of sweets and chocolate biscuits to be like my little friend.

The teacher told me that there are lots of kids that are snow coloured and chocolate coloured in the world, but that we are very similar in our ideas and thoughts and that we have the same rights and obligations independent of our skin color.

We have to accept and love people like Juliet with her chocolate skin and me with my snow skin, and my pair of eyes, my glasses, my mummy, everything – hahaha.

That was today´s adventure and I can´t wait for tomorrow to see my friend. Now I am going to bed, mummy, because tomorrow I will play, sing and dance with my friends and my teacher at nursery school.

THE END

When they told this story to the judge, who was a zebra, he said: ” You’d better live your life instead of the lives of others.´ You are to much of a busybody and that´s damaging to our community.
The ugly fairy only left her house once a month to go to the fairy ceremony, where old fairies shared their knowledge and experience with the rest of the fairies.

Claire always wore a mask, when she went out to rescue a child on a mission otherwise the child would always ended up saying: “Go away, you ugly fairy!”, and the poor fairy always felt very sad when this happened. One day at the monthly event, the lights went off and a group of witches flew in to kidnap all the fairies and steal their powers, but they didn’t catch Claire because she had forgotten to put on her mask, and so they thought that she was a witch because her face was full of warts.

Later, when the witches were celebrating their victory, Claire turned invisible and flew to the prison to save all the other fairies.

From that moment on, all the fairies have realised that Claire is in fact, a brilliant fairy, and that they shouldn’t treat her badly, and that is how Claire recovered her self esteem and learnt that beauty is not the most important thing.

THE END

Once upon a time, there was a boy named Gustav, who liked to go on the internet a few times per week to see what his friends were up to on the social networks.

One day, while Gustav was surfing the net, by chance, a little boy from China started chatting with him. Gustav was surprised to see that the boy’s facial features were very different from Gustav’s and he couldn’t understand what this boy was writing.

Although Gustav didn’t understand the boy, he wanted to write to him. But Gustav wanted to make sure it was ok first, so he went to ask his parents for permission. Gustav’s parents told him it was ok to write to the Chinese boy, and they decided to sit by their son, so they too could meet this boy.

Gustav’s parents explained that this little boy lived in a country that was very far away. In his part of the world, people had different facial features and a slightly different complexion, but apart from that they were the same as everybody else.

Gustav was excited, to be writing to a boy, just like him, but who lived on the other side of the world. “I don’t really understand what you are saying, but if you speak English I just wanted to say Hello,” Gustav wrote.

After a few seconds, the boy started writing back. When the message arrived, they were all very surprised because the boy had written it in English. The message said “Hi, I am from China, but I can speak a little English because I am learning it at school. Do you want to be my friend?”

And that is how Gustav became friends with another boy who lived far, far away. They would meet online every Saturday, and they would talk to each other about their week.

Both Gustav and the Chinese boy understood that no matter how different people look and how far away they are, they are still people, and you have to respect and love them just the same.

There was once a donkey whose name was Bruno. He lived with his master, an elderly man called Alfred. Every day, Bruno and his owner would go to the fields to work the earth. They looked after it so well that no weeds grew, and they ploughed and sowed the seeds.

Bruno’s job was very important, for he was responsible for the hardest tasks and that helped Alfred not to get so tired.

Like every day, today Bruno and Alfred were in the fields. While his owner snoozed under a tree, Bruno took the opportunity to eat something. Suddenly, something began moving beneath the earth where Bruno was eating… and up came a mole!!

“What are you doing eating my soil? Silly donkey… Can’t you see this is private property!?! Go on! Get out of here!!” scolded the mole.

Bruno answered: “I’m sorry, Mr. Mole, but this soil belongs to my owner and I can eat anything I want. By the way, I’m not going to go away, and what’s more I can see you’ve tried to trick me…”

The mole was surprised to see he hadn’t managed to deceive the donkey; Bruno seemed to be more intelligent than other donkeys he knew…

“Don’t be angry, donkey, I didn’t mean to trick you! I didn’t know this land belonged to your owner…” answered the mole.

Bruno replied: “Let me tell you one thing, Mr. Mole. It’s not right to take advantage of others. You thought that all donkeys are silly, but you shouldn’t be prejudiced.”

And so the mole went back inside his molehill, blushing and reflecting on what had happened. Our dear friend Bruno the donkey had taught the mole a very valuable lesson: there’s no need to trick anyone, for you will achieve much more if you are a good and honest person.

If ever there was an intrepid and adventurous little girl, it was certainly eight-year-old Lola. Lola lived with her parents and grandfather in a house in a small village, surrounded by mountains, a river and lots and lots of trees.

Every day after school once Lola had done her homework, she would eat a snack and think up a new adventure. Today, Lola put on her explorer glasses and picked up her backpack, where she kept a compass, a bottle of water, a lamp and a GPS that her parents had given her for her birthday.

“Mum, I’m going into the garden for a bit“, said Lola. “Ok, Lola, but be careful and come back in before it gets dark” replied her mother.

Lola ran out into the garden, which was as big as a football pitch, and her grandfather, who was sitting on the veranda, said: “What’s today’s adventure? If you need a companion on your travels, just let me know“.

“Oooh, yes please, Granddad,” said Lola. “Come with me – I need you to help me complete a really, really important mission!!!”

So Lola and her grandfather went to a part of the garden where there were lots of trees and bushes. “Come on, Granddad, look at this!!” said Lola. “What is it?!” he replied. “Can’t you see? It’s a trap for the ants that mum or dad must’ve put there… That yellow dust is poisonous, you know. We’ve got to do something, Granddad, because if not all the ants in the garden are going to end up dead!”

“So what’s your plan to save them?!” asked her grandfather.

“Well, I thought of making another road so that the ants can get into their anthill without having to go past the bit with the poison“, answered Lola.

“That’s a great idea. And that way your parents won’t realise, because the poisonous dust will still be in the same place and the ants can get home safe and sound,” commented her grandfather.

They quickly began to mark out a path to the anthill around the poisonous dust using a small spade that Lola had in her backpack. To make sure the ants wouldn’t take the wrong road, grandfather and Lola scattered some small grains of wheat along the path so that the ants would follow the food.

It was starting to get dark, and Lola and her grandfather went home very happy after the day’s adventure, content to know that the ants would get home safely.

“Granddad, this is between you and me, ok? If Mum finds out, she’ll tell me off!!“, said Lola.

Her grandfather smiled and said: “Of course, Lola dear, it will be our little secret“.

And Lola was very happy because she had completed the day’s mission, and more importantly, she had shared it with someone she really loved – her grandfather.

THE END

Once upon a time there was a rabbit that lived on an island full of bamboo canes. He was called Robbie, and every day he would run from his warren at one end of the island to where all the grass grew on the other, dodging the bamboo canes as he went.

One day, Robbie thought: “Why can’t I just go and eat the grass without having to hop round all those bamboo canes?” An idea came to him, and he set to work ripping away the bamboo stalks to create a path straight to his food.

Just as he was pulling out the second bamboo cane, he heard a little voice crying out: “Little rabbit Robbie! Don’t rip out more bamboo, for if you do all of us who live on this island will vanish!!”

Robbie was surprised to hear the voice, and quickly realised that it came from a bamboo cane. He answered: “I’m sorry, Mrs Bamboo Cane, but I’m making a road to get to my food quicker.”

But the bamboo cane kept talking to Robbie and told him: “I understand your reasons for pulling us up, but the whole island is in danger if you do!!“

“Why?” asked Robbie, astounded. To which the bamboo cane replied: “Because we, the bamboo stalks, support the ground on this island, and if we disappear, the island will sink and you will sink with us!!”

The fair-minded Robbie understood that the bamboo cane was right, and thought: “We can’t mistreat nature without accepting the consequences.”
