Once upon a time…

There was a little ant, his name was Richard, but his friends called him Little one, the smallest ant; but he did not like that name at all, he wanted them to call him Richard. So he left his house.

Richard went to a place called Tiarsa; his new home was John and Elisabeth´s house. They were married, and did not have children, but the ant loved them so much that one day dared to go up Elisabeth´s arm and talked to her.

When Elisabeth saw him, got very frightened and wanted to kill him, ran outside to the road and a car ran over Richard.

Fifteen days later, his friends found out and went to look for him. Took so much care of him, and Richard realized that he really loved his family, and was very happy with his friends and family since then.

And that is the end of the story…

Moral of the Story: Never disregard your friends, you will always need them.

Once upon a time, there was a hard-working ant called Lucy. She was living alone in the ant´s nest, which was on a path.

The ant always went out to take some leaves, walking a long way to a tree to cut the leaves and bring them back to her ant´s nest.

But one day, a woodcutter felled the tree and the Lucy was left without leaves, and was hungry.

Lucy began to cry, but another little ant called Melissa, who had lots of leaves, shared her food with her. Then they began to talk:

“Have these leaves and stop crying” – said Melissa.

“Thank you my friend, if something happens to you, I will help you too”

From that day on, they ate together everyday, shared their food and became very good friends forever.

This is the story of Lily, the lying ant…

Lily the ant is queen of the biggest ant´s nest in the region and today was her birthday. She had organized a festival to celebrate it, a big party where ants came from all around the world to attend.

There were red ants, black ants, weaver ants, leaf cutter ants from South America, and even the strange but friendly crazy ants. They were all there in the big hall, eating and drinking non-stop and they had all brought presents for Lily. It was at that moment when, Lily ant, seeing her friends there altogether, stood on the hall platform and thanked them for coming fro all over the world, and then said:

– “Sisters, I want to tell you my great feat and the reason why I´m now the greatest queen of all ants”

All the ants pricked up their antennas and listened the queen´s words.

-“One sunny afternoon” – said Lily – “when, walking through the leafy and green forest I met a huge and angry buffalo who, proud of his strength, wanted to fight me, but I punched him first and fractured his big jaw. The poor buffalo left crying while I left singing happily. I am Lily, the bravest ant in the forest, everybody fears me and nobody faces me!”

– “Oh! you are the best” – said the weaver ants – “but not the fiercest” – replied the leaf cutter from South America.

-“My fame…” – continued Lily – “has grown so much since then that, one morning during breakfast, a big tiger screamed at me:

Come here brave ant! Everybody in the forest fears you and nobody faces you! 

That´s right! – I said, and I  kicked him and knocked him down.

I am the bravest ant in the forest, everybody fears me and nobody faces me!” – She continued by saying – “I fought against an elephant, a polar bear, the furious lion and even against tanks of war, but I pushed them all into the water with my little legs. Once in the sea, a shark wanted to eat me, but I bit him and broke his fin.”

Suddenly, there was a big noise in the ant´s nest and a huge red beetle appeared. – “Lily, the ant!” – said the huge insect – “Let´s see if you are as brave as you say, fight with me.”

But Lily was shocked and trembled with fear. She said:

“Dear ants, nobody should lie, as things can go bad for liars. I´m a normal ant. I can´t even pursue a flea. I could die from a frog’s breath.”

At that moment that the beetle said: “I just wanted you to tell the truth.” – And then, he left.

If a bird flew by, he asked why. If a frog croaked, he asked his parents why. Actually, he asked questions the whole day.

One day he was playing in the park when he saw an insect. He screamed because he didn’t know what kind of insect it was. His mother, approached to see what was going on. When she saw the insect she started laughing: “It´s just a harmless ant, don´t worry,” – she said.

Johnny kept on playing, running up and down, when saw a group of kids bending down looking at something on the ground, Johnny went to check and heard:

-“We have to kill all these ants”.

But Johnny had just learnt that ants are harmless, and so could not let them kill the little ants; “Stop!” – he screamed.

The other kids looked at him, but after two seconds continued to hatch their destructive plan against the little ants.

“We can´t kill them, ants are harmless!” – insisted Johnny.

“They are on our soccer field and we can´t play football with them here.” – complained a kid

“They are just collecting food to survive the winter.” – Johnny thought carefully and then said – “I got it! Let´s guide them to another place by leaving food on the ground.”

And so they did. The kids left crusts of bread leading all the way to a nest far from the soccer field and this solved the problem.

The kids learnt that day that it is important to respect all kinds of animal or insect from nature, and that there is always a solution.

Nila was a lovely fairy, pretty and kind. She lived in the fairy palace surrounded by flowers, rivers and animals.

She was the only fairy unable to fly, as she fell to the ground every time she tried to fly, so she decided not to try it again.

But Nila was very upset because all her friends could fly and play together and she couldn´t. She would go to the river and talk to her friend the ant who always advised Nila not to worry.

One day, due to a strong breeze the ant was about to be blown  into the river. Luckily she grasped a branch and called for help. Nila heard her friend’s shouts, but was far from the river and didn´t know what to do.

The only option that would get her there on time and save her friend, was to fly, so Nila tried again and finally flew!

She saved her friend and realised that by forgetting her fears she was able to fly and do anything she wanted.

One day an ant saw a dog wearing three shoes.

“Wow! what a dog! so badly dressed and not even shaved! It’s awful to see an animal like this, please dog, get away from me!” – said the ant.

“Sorry Miss Ant, I didn’t want to bother you but I am looking for a shoe and something to eat.” – said the dog.

The ant realised that she should not have judged him or for that matter, anybody. So from that day on she became a humble ant.

On the other hand, the dog had seen an ant with only one leg and that is why he had given her one of his shoes and so his heart was fed by love.

After a day of hard work, Tip’s mother returned to the anthill. She had barely got through the door when Tip came running out asking: “Mum, why do you have to collect food for winter now?” So Tip’s mother calmly came in, sat on the sofa and said: “Son, we collect food at this time of year because we ants can’t go outside in winter. It becomes very cold then, and sometimes it rains or even snows. If any of us go out in winter, we are in serious danger.” To which Tip answered: “So … the cold, rain and snow are bad?”

“Well, no, Tip. Actually, we need them to live, but just imagine a heavy downpour of rain: we’re so small that if we go outside we could drown because just one drop could kill us,” replied his mother.

But Tip was a very curious ant, and he began to wonder what rain or snow was really like. So he decided to wait for the first rainfall in autumn to see for himself.

Eventually, there came a cold rainy day in autumn. Tip decided it was the perfect opportunity to go outside for the very first time. He waited until his mother had gone out for a cup of tea with her friends, then slipped out of the house towards the anthill exit.

Tip was still very small and didn’t know the dangers he could face. Although deep down, he knew that disobeying his mother was wrong, he still went ahead with his plan. As he approached the anthill exit, a strange thundering noise became louder and louder. “What on earth could that be?” he wondered and grew more and more curious to get outside and see the rain.

Just as he was about to leave the anthill, a guard ant stepped into his path and said: “Where do you think you’re going, little one? Don’t you know it’s raining?” Tip froze, for he didn’t expect to be stopped just as he was about to discover what rain was…

“It’s just that I don’t know what rain is, so I wanted to go outside and see…” Tip replied.

“But that’s crazy! Weren’t you warned about the dangers of going outside when it’s raining or very cold?” the guard scolded him.

“Yeeees… But I didn’t think it was that dangerous,” answered Tip.

The anthill guard, seeing that Tip really was just a very, very curious ant, decided to take him to a place in the anthill they called The Tower. From here, he could see the world outside but remain safe and sound.

Well, what a view greeted him at the top!  The rain was pounding down and the path outside looked like a wild water river. Tip finally understood why he should have listened to his mother, for it truly was crazy to leave the anthill in such weather. And so Tip the curious ant continued to be curious, but he had learned that we must listen to our mothers and be more careful, for it is all for our own good.

The ants were busy storing the grain for the winter so that when the cold weather came there would be enough food for everyone.

But this year, the grain was very small and difficult to transport. It was a gloomy situation and even the wisest old ants weren’t sure they could survive the winter.

But Anita wanted to store as much grain as possible to help her family, and she knew that by showing an optimistic attitude around the rest of the ants, they could do it. So off she went to train with an ant who was much stronger than her, an ant called Alexander.

Alexander taught her a few tricks on how to carry more grain with the same amount of effort. Anita trained for a few days and as the days went past, she was able to carry more and more.

When Anita was finally ready, she called the rest of the ants together and told them: “I know you think we won’t survive the winter. But I have a solution: firstly, you have to believe we can do it, and secondly, I’ll teach you what you need to do to carry more grain.”

And so the whole anthill set to work like Anita said, with optimism and a hopeful heart, and before the winter arrived they had already gathered more grain than the year before. And so it was that, thanks to Anita, all the ants survived the winter without any problem.
