Short Story for boys and girls written by: Valentina Trimboli.

One day, Martin bought a fish, a beautiful gold colored fish. His name was Billy.

Then he bought a fish bowl, to be the fish’s temporary home, as the fish was going to be released into the sea sometime in the future.

Unconsciously, Martin raised his fish so that it developd several fears. It suffered fear for life beyond its bowl, fear to swim free, fear to explore everything in the outside world.

On Saturday 8th February 2005, Martin went to the beach with a group of members of the AHA (Animal Health Association) to free Billy (the fish) because it was now an adult.

When Billy found himself in such a big, open space, he didn´t know what to do, where to go or how to react to common things, like boats and bigger fish, and he didn’t know how to feed himself or where to live.

One day, Billy was swimming between the coral at the bottom of the sea, when suddenly, between two brilliant rocks, he saw sharks approaching him. Billy trembled with fear and the sharks could hear his teeth trembling. Billy didn´t know how to react and so looked at them and said:

– “Don´t eaaaaat me. Pleeeeease!”

The two sharks looked at him, laughed and said:

– “Don´t be scared little friend. We won´t hurt you, but you have to be careful and eat something too, you are too skinny”.

Billy said sadly:

– “I know, but my owner raised me in a fish bowl, I didn´t know what to do when he brought me here, back to the sea. I don´t know what to eat or where to live. Can you help me?”

The sharks said: “Sure, little one, come with us”.

Billy followed them…

Nowadays, Billy is a strong and healthy gold colored fish, with a big smile that illuminates even the darkest of places, as he has everything he wants. Has a warm home and two shark friends that help him and are with him all the time.

Short Story for Kids written by: Alejandra, (Argentina).

Philip, the naughty sea wolf is really worried. Sitting on the sand, legs up, he thinks and thinks. Why isn’t the sky as blue as before? When was the last time that the seagull Vonda visited him? Why can´t he swim free?

Before, the sea was transparent and he could go fishing relaxed.

The adventure of searching for food was so much fun! But nowadays, who can get what they are looking for when everything is in such short supply?

The light is limited, the sun’s smell is limited. Everything is limited except the black stain that was born one morning and grew and grew in the middle of the sea. It is implacable, it eats the fish, birds and anyone who comes close suffers the same fate.

The shore is empty, Philip looks disconsolate; A child’s laughter is not heard, and the music he likes is not heard either. The airplanes don´t stop flying overhead.

They attack the stain spraying fluid from the air. The old wolf Nathan, has no answers. Not even his secret investigations can explain what´s going on.

Miss Candy, the loud-mouthed seal doesn´t stop complaining: “It is not right to make our skin so dirty! These stains can´t be removed at all, what do you think?”

The sea is not a rubbish bin, baby wolves can´t swim around alone and play in the waves, it is not right!

The catfish with its big mustache told them in his marine language that he was moving away with his friends.

– “My house is completely destroyed, there is no way out, there is no way out!”

– “And, who can handle this unbearable smell?” – yelled the stuttering crab.

The stain will stay forever if the wind doesn’t blow hard. Many curios baby wolves began to approach it. If the treacherous black stuff catches you, you will end up full of oil. Those who know say that if humans don’t help you the possibilities of continuing to live are also limited.

The little wolves run the risk of loosing their skin’s protection. Philip thinks and thinks every morning, searching for a solution, because the human solution is not good enough.

– “And I don`t want to be a spoilsport but they hang around with that plane spraying whatever it is onto the stain and, well, they must be careful the stain doesn’t eat the sky as well!

But..who suddenly comes dodging through the clouds? ¿Is it her or is it not? Yes! Finally! Seagull Vonda, the travelling seagull has brought answers for sure.

– “I came, I came! I have news, the South is clean!”

All the wolves clapped happily except Nathan.

– “What´s wrong grandpa, aren´t you happy?”

– “We, the oldest, are slow, if we all leave, who will watch over the shore?”.

Philip´s black eyed stare submerged to the bottom of the sea together with his hopes. It has now been several weeks, and the island rocks are deserted, the stain is the only guest on the beach.

Several kilometres away, the seagull Vonda has a difficult job. To guide those clumsy but persistent travellers. Her wingbeat is a moving hope. The little wolf Philip is at the head of the group as their captain, he does not stop singing with the stuttering crab a lo…lo…long song.

Well friends, I think I have to pack and go with them. Migrate; as humans say. I prefer to say that I´m going to look for new hopes and new adventures.

THE END

Short Story for Kids written by: Silvia Hernández Suástegui.

Ruth was a beautiful girl with red hair like the sun’s rays. Her large, beautiful black eyes which she had inherited from her maternal grandmother, sparkled with excitement at seeing the sea. She liked to walk along the beach to greet the sea and talk to him.

Every time she visited him, the sea waves filled Ruth´s face with salty drops that gave her the feeling of receiving a thousand kisses from him.

– “Hi Ruth! How are you?” – whispered the sea – “where have you been? I have really missed you”.

Ruth, who was privileged to hear his voice, answered:

– “I missed you too, that is why I have come to visit you again. Do you know what, my dear sea? I could never miss the privilege of admiring you and hearing the beautiful sound you emit”.

Ruth continued saying:

-“The most fascinating thing about you is when your arms turn into waves that are similar to wings. You rise trying to touch the sky and when they break on the sand, many white butterflies come out from your foam. Also the dancing of your waves sounds like drums pounding to remind us of your power. Oh! but what I most adore about you are the ringing of your shells when you draw back to form a new wave. They ring with the sand, emitting the most beautiful and perfect melody that I have ever heard from any musical instrument. That is the reason why I love you so much, my dear sea. And I will come every day to visit you and play with you”.

Ruth said goodbye to the sea each day, after playing with him and always promised to visit him again the day after.

THE END

The moral of the Story: Love and respect nature and the environment. It is fundamental for all of us, because we are part of it.

Values of the Story: Respect, friendship, Love.

Once upon a time…

There was a kangaroo called Mary who met a bee. The bee told her that it would love to go sailing with her on her boat.

Both were enjoying a nice afternoon, rowing along the coast and taking in the beautiful landscape.

Suddenly, one of their oars fell into the sea, so they sailed as far as they could until they found a house with a beautiful garden.

They left the boat to ask for help from the owner, who was from Asia. He invited them into his house to rest.

Then they rolled a dice and thought that it would be funny to go to the ZOO, to see an elephant and other animals. They had so much fun there and met lots of new friends.

On the way back they got new oars and decided to continue with their trip. After a few hours on the sea, they saw a lighthouse signalling to them that they were near the coast.

They arrived in New York, visited the city and bought souvenirs.

There, they met an iguana, who joined their trip, which had begun as a simple boat ride.

They became very good friends, visiting many places and at each one they made new friends so that they were soon joined by other friends, such as a frog and a sheep…

When their journey finished, they all went to the kangaroo´s house, whose mum invited them to a cup of hot chocolate and they told her everything they had seen and the amazing adventures they had lived.

Short Stories for Kids written by: Julieta Anahi Calvielo y Candelaria Belen Nuñez.

Once upon a time there were two mermaids called Juliet and Rose. They were very happy living in the sea, eating sea snails.

One day, a shark girl came and made a trap with lots of sea snails inside, trying to trick them. But the mermaids discovered that the shark had put a net, and they ran far, far away, somewhere very far from the shark.

They met a friend, called Ariel, the princess of the sea. Played together non stop, had so much fun, doing back flips, swimming around the sea. Were very happy.

Then, went to meet Ariel´s father, who was at the kingdom; and from that moment, they were not afraid of sharks any more. Ate sea snails and were very happy ever after.

Sand Castles

Summer. What a happy and hot time! Feeling the beach sand on your feet, hearing the waves splashing on the seashore, swimming and feeling the sun on your skin. Relaxing in the sea, listening to the birds, and the seagulls flying through the skies. There are many things to enjoy on the beach. Oops! I almost forgot! the ice cream seller with chocolate ice-creams, fresh water and fruit.

My brother Ignatius and I, Mathias, packed our baggage with all our clothes, sun cream, towels and…our swimsuits! My father put all the suitcases, bags, and everything inside the car. We were going to the sea; to the beach for one week. My mum prepared our breakfast, she had bought delicious croissants and quince jelly at the bakery, which were finger licking good. We drank coffee with milk and ate some chocolate biscuits. Those delicacies calmed our hunger and thirst and filled our bellies completely.

After that amazing breakfast we continued packing and then began our trip to the beach.

On the way, we drove through a beautiful landscape with high mountains on the horizon, under a radiant sun, and beside the green colour of the fields.

We arrived after a long and exhausting journey. My father looked for a bungalow where we might sleep as never before, after having driven during hours with my brother beside him asking: “Are we there yet?” every three seconds.

Well, we left our baggage at a bungalow. My brother and I went to try the beds. We jumped on them and began a pillow fight, but my mum stopped us.

While my dad took a nap in his room, my mum said we could walk to the beach and go into the water to refresh ourselves, because it was a really hot day.

We put on our swimsuits excitedly, and took sun cream and towels.

We walked along a dirt road. There were horses trotting in a waste ground beside us.

When we reached the beach, everything was as I had imagined, with a huge and endless sea. There were umbrellas everywhere, ice-cream sellers, fritters and delicious cakes. The thin sand massaged my feet and there were crustaceans, crabs, and other molluscs. It was my favourite place in where I felt in harmony.

My mum had brought “maté”, a thermos flask, a ball and some chairs.

We went into the cold water and played volleyball. Meanwhile, our mother sunbathed, reading a magazine.

We had a great time but were freezing when we came out of the water, because there was cold wind and a cool air temperature. We drank “maté” with her, sitting on the beach seats, and devoured sweet fritters.

Dad woke up and came to see us. We made all kind of sand castles with him, in different shapes and sizes and played in the sand, looked for crabs under the rocks, a little of everything.

When night fell, we went back to the bungalow with my dad, collected firewood and made a bonfire while my mum washed the vegetables for the salad. We ate a delightful roast (It seems that we had never lost our appetites!)

That is how we spent those enjoyable days, living a huge and real adventure.

On the last day, we had escalopes with chips for dinner which filled our stomachs. And then we went to bed. it was the last time that I was going to see the beach and the sea that year, so I went out to see the sea and the fine sand that I loved. I sat on the sand and tears fell wetting the sand.

– “I don’t want to leave this place” I said, and I stayed there the whole night without sleeping, hugging the sand, beside my castle.

THE END

Short Story written by: Fernando Mansilla.

Lolo would go to his garden every afternoon where ther was a pear tree, an apple tree, a plum tree and a chestnut tree, but he preferred to sit in the shade under the vine that his grandfather had sown twenty years ago, and which had lots of bunches of grapes that season. There, he would wait for his snail friends to come for their food. He sometimes flew his kite during summer and imagined that he himself was flying over the city on a magic carpet.

That autumn evening the sun was shining in the blue sky and it was too hot. Lolo had the feeling that the afternoon was not going to be like others. He waited patiently for the snails to come, but they didn´t. When he was about to go home, sad and dejected, two snails appeared walking more slow than usual.

Lolo asked worried:

“What´s wrong, friends? I´ve been waiting the whole afternoon, I´m very concerned.”

The oldest snail said with his rough and faltering voice:

“Friend Lolo, we need your help”

“What is wrong?Tell me!” – replied Lolo with fear.

“Last night, a stray turtle came into our garden. we welcomed her cordially, gave her water and food, and she stayed the whole night telling us stories about the adventures she had had. About her travels and she talked about all the gardens in the world where she had been, such as Paris and Vienna. Three of my grandchildren went to bed very excited by these stories, and they weren´t at home when we woke up this morning! We looked for them everywhere, in the fountains, behind the trees, but we haven´t found them. They have gone.”

Lolo was thoughtful but didn’t know what to do, until she suddenly had an idea:

“Let´s ask the gardener!” – They ran to look for him and found him watering a rose bush.

“Mister gardener; have you seen three snails and a stray turtle?”

“Yes, my friends,” – said the gardener standing up – “They left your garden early in the morning and went to the port happily talking about oil tankers, sailing boats and pirate ships. ”

“Thank you Mister gardener” – said Lolo. Then he and his friends went running to the port. But nobody was there, just a fisherman repairing a fishing net and others carrying boxes. They asked them if they had seen the turtle and the snails, but none had.

There was an old man at the end of the dock repairing his fishing net. He had a long white beard and was wearing big rubber boots. They also asked him and he said:

“They have gone to “The Enchanted Island”, that one over there, can you see it? if you help me repair my fishing net, I´ll take you there in exchange”.

And so they did. Lolo, the snails and the old man took the ship to Enchanted Island. On the way, the old sailor told them amazing stories about fantastic marine monsters and his dangerous adventures. Lolo didn´t believe the stories, of course, but he liked them and the way the sailor told them.

Suddenly, when they had barely covered one nautical mile, the sky became dark, the clouds began to move and a violent storm started. Sea water filled the ship and the waves hit it making it capsize and finally break into pieces. They tried to swim, but weren´t able and slowly they began sinking and drowning.

Lolo woke up shocked right at that moment. He saw that he was still in his garden surrounded by his snails. He rubbed his eyes and realised that it had been a nightmare.

He took his blue kite, put all his snails on it and they flew together over the city. That was the most beautiful afternoon ever for Lolo, because there was a brilliant rainbow shining on the horizon.

And that is the end of the story.

THE END

Once upon a time there was a very lazy and grumpy ship that really wished she had wheels. Every afternoon she went to the coast to watch the people on their bicycles riding around the city.

One summer morning, on waking up, she decided that after doing her work as a fisher of the seas, and after being dropped at anchor in the harbour, she would spend the afternoon dreaming of being a rolling “bike-ship”.

When the captain came back after his fishing trip, he left his ship well-protected and went into the town. Once alone, the ship whistled to a bike that was passing by and invited the bike on board. The bike was happy to accept, and her new friend, the ship, sailed her over the sea.

Miss bike began to feel sick after a few hours and the ship told her that the sea provokes travel sickness to those that are not used to sailing.

Once back at the coast, the ship gathered a bit of courage and finally said to Miss bike that she wanted to have wheels like her so that she could roll along and around the beautiful city. Miss bike promised to tell the captain. The ship hoped her dream would come true and that she would have big wheels so that they could roll and play and jump and roll along together.

The next morning, the captain decided to paint his ship´s old wooden hull. A wheeled trailer took her out of the water and she was very happy to be on it. They lifte the ship by crane and took her out of the water. When she woke up, the little ship was astonished when she realised that she was in the city.

Miss bike saw her passing and greeted the ship, riding fast but being careful. That day was a very special day because the little ship could finally fulfilled her dream, and roll along and around the city and play and jump with Miss bike.

THE END

A long, long time ago when the sea was created, lots of different kinds of colourful fish were born, all sizes and colours, and there was one special one, a little blue fish, shiny and beautiful. He was different to the others because his colour reflected everything around him due to the sunlight.

The little blue fish didn´t understand why he was like that. He was never going to play with his friends because the brightness of his scales could blind his friends´ eyes and he didn´t want to annoy them.

One cloudy day, the other little fish didn´t have enough light to play in and decided to call the little blue fish because they needed him to illuminate the place.

The little blue fish realised that it didn´t matter how different he was, if he could help others.

From that day on, he played with his friends every day and they had lots of fun together.

Days passed and the little grain of sand was very happy and enjoyed that beautiful place, playing with the waves, sunbathing and not thinking about anything else.

But soon it was time to go back home. The little grain got ready to begin his trip, but the tide had changed and it was very difficult to find his way back home.

He was very sad as it was time to finish his trip and he didn´t know how. After thinking about how to solve his problem he decided to wait until the tide turned.

After a few hours, the little grain of sand could finally begin his journey back home, he just needed a bit of patience and confidence in himself.
