Short Story for Kids written by: Carolina Mora Arévalo.

Nobody wanted to be King of the Vegetable kingdom as it was such a difficult responsibility.

The kingdom was full of all kinds of colors, green spinach, orange carrots, red tomatoes, white onions, yellow peppers, and florets of cauliflower and broccoli everywhere. It was an amazing place full of health and strength.

Messages were sent out around the kingdom for them to choose a King. But nobody wanted to assume the charge. They all preferred other kingdoms like The kingdom of Sweets, The Crab kingdom, or even The Cold Meat kingdom, but nobody wanted The Vegetable kingdom.

Then one day, a little man called Luram, became sick. He was really weak and lost a lot of weight. He became very skinny and could not grow any taller. He was really sick, had no energy, and only wanted to stay in bed. Had no strength to jump or run around.

One day, a fairy called Lily visited him, and invited him to drink a tonic, she was sure that it would be good for him. It was made from the vegetables, pomegranate, blueberries and elderberry.

When Luram drank the tonic that Lily the fairy had prepared for him, he started to feel better, he was full of energy, wanted to play, run around, and jump again. Fairy Lily visited him again, to check how he was feeling and gave him another tonic. He said it was great and so, Lily told Luram:

– “Now you are heathy and strong thanks to the vegetables that you used to reject, accompanied by a few dried berries and fruit. So, it´s time to be thankful to the kingdom of vegetables by giving back the good it has done for you.

Luram started thinking about what might be the best way to do something good for this kingdom.

He first visited all those who were sick, invited them to improve their eating habits; showed them the importance of eating vegetables and fruit every day. Luram invited them to drink a bit of the delicious tonic the fairy had given him. It was so delicious that, when they found out what it was made of, they realized that they could drink it every day, or simply just eat the vegetables and berries it was made from.

The inhabitants of the kingdom immediately realized that little Luram was doing good and that he could be their king. Little Luram answered humbly:

– “I´m not ready to reign yet because I haven´t improved my own eating habits completely, and there are still people here that are not eating like they should. I still have to make everybody understand that not eating vegetables or fruit or berries can make them fat, nevertheless, I will continue working and will only accept the title of: Prince Luram of The Vegetable kingdom.

THE END

Moral of the Short Story for Kids: Do not reject anything before getting to know it.

Values of the Short Story for Kids. To share, Humility, good habits, etcetera.

…That day, Walt did not get anything right. He turned left when he should have turned right, and he walked twenty three steps instead of twenty.

The result was that he did not arrived at school. He became lost in an uncertain and disoriented world, and he could not stop thinking about the magician.

A voice sounded in his head: “Improvise, Walt”.

-“Improvise? What is that?”

Improvising is acting when the unexpected (or magical) happens. After many hours walking around the streets, Walt arrived home where his parents scolded him.

That night, he dreamed again. This time, the magician was on a mountain but said nothing. He just stood there, dressed in a blue tunic on top of the huge mountain.

Walt saw lots of colours accumulated on the mountain: The green grass at the top was covered with colourful dots (these were flowers). There were trees with brown trunks and golden coloured bees, grey roses, blue rivers and white snow.

Walt woke up worried again. Nature was something far away, outside the city. But he had to find that mountain and so he prepared a rucksack with food and clothes inside, and set off on his journey.

He had never left the metropolis to reach the wild territories before. It took him a long time and a lot of effort to find a way out. It was dark when he finally arrived to the fields and Walt saw the stars for the first time. He smelled the wet soil and heard the crickets. And now Walt believed in magic for the first time in his life.

He spent that night in the open air. He was cold but he did not care. He screamed out loudly without knowing why, only knowing that he needed to let out of his own body everything that was grey from the city.

The next day, he saw the shape of the mountain against the horizon. He walk without resting, sometimes climbing, creeping and dragging himself along as best he could.

It was not easy to reach the top of the mountain and Walt was disappointed when he realised that nobody was there. He closed his eyes as tears streamed down his cheeks, and, at that moment, the magician appeared. Walt still had his eyes closed, but could see the magician.

-“Walt, remember, I don´t exist, but magic does” said the magician.

Walt understood everything immediately. He believed in magic from that moment, and not his days were always different. When he did his homework it was not monotonous, and he learned to be happier and to live every instant full of hope.

Once upon a time…

There was a Kid who did not believe in stories about magic. The world was just a mixture of pavements and cement. Everything was grey with fumes, and metal and concrete skyscrapers.

The kid, whom everybody called Walt, went to school everyday automatically.

He used to leave his house, cross a zebra crossing when the traffic light was green, walk past a bakery and a fruit shop, turn right, and after ten steps turn left, then walk twenty steps straight-ahead before reaching the school door. And he did the same thing day after day, day after day…

The way back home was similar, if not even more monotonous. Then he would do his homework with a pencil, rubber and paper before going to sleep every day, knowing that the next day would be identical to the one before.

But one night, without knowing why. Walt had a dream. He had not had a dream for ages as according to responsible adults, dreams were not at all useful.

This was because dreaming is not productive and does not generate money. That is the reason why Walt was used to not dreaming. Well, for what? Nevertheless, that night, he dreamed and dreamed a strong dream, with his eyes tightly closed.

A Magician appeared in his dream, what a silly thing! A magician. It was clear that magicians did not exist. Magic was an invention, made up by people from the past. Now the world was grey and serious. Now, the world was a perfect machine that generated identical days.

In Walt’s dream the magician had been very clear:

-“Walt, escape from this world of crazy people and come back to the magic of good sense: colours exist, reality is not mathematically designed. Many things can happen at the magic well”.

At that moment the alarm clock sounded.

TO BE CONTINUED…

Short Story for kids written by: Adela Garcia

Once upon a time, there was beautiful fairy princess, she was living in her kingdom with her father the king and her mother the queen.

Everybody there was able to fly but her and her family; because and evil wizard had put a curse on the whole family, and the spell could only be undone by a good witch, good hearted with feelings. But unfortunately, the good witch of the kingdom had died.

She said to herself:

-“I won´t give up and I will find a good witch to undo the spell!”

But she knew that her parents would never let her go to look for the witch.

One day, at midnight, she dressed up as a maidservant, and went out of the castle. When her parents went to wake her up at sunrise, did not find her.

The princess searched inside an abandone cave in where she found a book of spells, searched and searched around to see if there was any wizard that had forgotten it. But she did not find anyone, so went back to the castle. When she arrived, waited a punishment for having escaped.

Went into the room and remembered the book, looked for it and opened it, reading page after page, discovered many spells, one for swimming, another, for surfing…but none of them were the one she needed, until found a note between two pages saying:

“Whoever finds and reads this book will be the next good witch or good wizard of the kingdom“.

Suddenly, a ray of light came in through the window until her, she was shocked and began to fly, breaking the spell and becoming the good witch of the kingdom.

And that is the end of the story…

The moral of the story: Never give up

Short Story´s values: Persistence, self-confidence.

Once upon a time there was an orange called Ory who met a magician. The magician told Ory that he was going to grant her three wishes.

Ory´s first wish was to be bigger, -“your wish is granted” – said the magician, but Ory´s second wish was not that good:

– “I want to be transformed into an iron! – The orange said.

But after a few weeks, Ory was tired of working as an Iron, and wanted to be an orange again. But she couldn´t find the magician.

Ory didn´t want her friends to see her as an iron, but what she didn´t know was that her friends had also changed their looks and were also objects, and they also wanted to go back to what they were before.

Luckily, the magician appeared again and transformed them all back into fruit. They had all learnt to appreciate themselves, and they then lived happily forever.

Short Story written by: Ana Maria Amarfil

Every year a Big circus comes to the city, We the children are anxious to see the big lion opening his big mouth and showing his teeth.

The lion tamer is a tall, young man that puts his head into the lion´s mouth while all the women and children scream.

We all think that the lion is going to bite him, but the young tamer takes his head out of the lion´s mouth and smiles and we all feel relieved.

The tamer talks to the Lion before every performance and it looks like the animal understands him as it roars and moving its head.

I think they are very good friends because of the way they understand each other. The tamer uses the whip during each performance, cracking it against the floor, and the sound makes the lion obey him.

Later Mike the magician appears, dressed in a black suit and he makes a green toucan with blue wings disappear inside a hat. Then the magician says some magic words and the green toucan reappears.

I also like the little, long tail monkeys dressed up as a clowns in striped suits. The clown is a fat man who plays with three other clowns. They make the little monkeys play and jump, and it is really funny because the little monkeys are very funny and disobedient.

THE END

Many years ago there was once a wizard who had a very valuable treasure, for it made any dream come true. It was a magic lamp, which had passed from generation to generation until finally it was coming into the hands of the latest descendent, Daniel.

Daniel was about to turn twelve, and he received the magic lamp as a birthday present from his parents. The instructions were very simple, as his father explained: “Daniel, the magic lamp will make any wish come true, but it will only grant wishes that are truly good for you. And all you need to do is rub the magic lamp several times.”

That day, Daniel did not dare to pick up the magic lamp. He was a little nervous about it, for he still didn’t know what to ask or what was truly good for him. In the end, he decided to go to sleep… But in the middle of the night Daniel suddenly woke up with a start, jumped out of bed and picked up the magic lamp that he had left on his bedside table.

He had thought of something and was very intrigued to know if the magic lamp would grant it… But what could this exciting wish be? You will soon find out!

Daniel shut his eyes tightly and rubbed the magic lamp three times, then put it on the floor. After a few minutes, his wish still hadn’t been granted so he had decided to wait a little longer. He sat in front of the magic lamp, getting more and more impatient.

In the end he couldn’t stand it any longer, for he had been waiting more than an hour. Little by little, his eyes began to close, but then a ray of yellow light suddenly began to shine from the magic lamp. The light grew stronger and stronger, forcing Daniel to shield his face from the radiance.

But in an instant the light vanished and Daniel’s wish was there before him; he couldn’t believe it. “It worked!” shouted Daniel happily. There in front of Daniel was a state-of-the-art computer, for he wanted to be a computer scientist when he grew up and he had always wanted his parents to buy him one. Unfortunately, they hadn’t been able to because computers were very expensive and his parents didn’t have much money.

So Daniel was very happy to see that the magic lamp had granted his wish; at last he had a computer and now he could start learning new things for when he went to university.

THE END

Legend has it that many, many years ago there was a wizard who had always wanted to fly like a bird to see what it felt like to soar through the air. Arion, for that was the wizard’s name, hoped that one day he would finally manage to fly, so every day as soon as he got up he would set to work in his laboratory searching for the magic formula.

One day, as the wizard was doing his experiments and inventing new potions, his cat Dabra arrived in the laboratory. He was so happy to see the wizard that in his haste he broke into a run and knocked over some of the potions Arion had made.

The wizard got very annoyed with Dabra and said: “Naughty cat!! I don’t want to see you ever again, get out of this house!!” And so Dabra went sadly out onto the street.

Arion the wizard went round cleaning up all the liquid that had fallen on the floor and on top of an old umbrella that the wizard had had since he was a boy, for it had been a gift from his grandfather. Arion couldn’t believe it – the umbrella had been stained multicoloured by the potions! “Oh no!” he cried, “That cat has destroyed my grandfather’s umbrella, it’s ruined!”

But just as Arion the wizard was about to throw the umbrella in the bin, he accidentally opened it up and saw a blaze of colourful lights surrounding him. And then he noticed that his feet weren’t touching the floor – they were in the air!

In a flash, Arion realised that the umbrella was magic, and that by holding it he could fly. Excited, he shouted: “I’m flying like a bird at last!!“

The wizard spent the whole afternoon flying about from one place to another and having a grand old time. But as he glided near his house, he noticed Dabra curled up on the ground outside, weeping because his master had been angry with him. So Arion the wizard flew to earth, shut his umbrella and went up to his cat.

“Dabra! I’m very sorry, dear friend, for being so horrible to you. I know that all you wanted was to say hello and that you didn’t realise that the potions were there. Come home with me and I promise it will never happen again. I’m very sorry for having treated you that way,” apologised Arion the wizard in remorse.

For after all, the wizard had achieved his wish to fly like a bird thanks to his cat Dabra, who had accidentally mixed up all the potions to create a flying umbrella. And Arion the wizard understood that he should never treat his dear cat Dabra so horribly ever again.

THE END

There was once a goblin called Godfrey who lived on a plot of land outside a very small village. There was a house on the plot, in which a family lived: a mother, father, son, daughter and a cat called Meow.

Godfrey the goblin usually lived among the bushes in the garden, but sometimes he would go into the garage for a while. The family had no idea that they were sharing their home with a goblin.

One day, Godfrey went to the garage for a change of scene, like he often did, but this time he suddenly bumped into the cat Meow.

Meow went very quiet when she spotted the little green goblin, and Godfrey did the same. They stared at each other until they heard the voice of one of the children coming down to the garage. Then Godfrey ran off at full speed, and not even Meow knew where he had gone. Meow started to look for him, sniffing the ground to follow his tracks, but she didn’t know that goblins don’t leave any scent behind and that’s why you can’t find them.

Godfrey was very shy and only let animals see him, never people, which was why he always ran away when a human approached. But Godfrey had a little secret: he knew how to talk to cats. So he decided to go back and look for Meow so they could become friends.

And that was exactly what happened… he found Meow in the garage again licking her paw and began to chat to her. Initially, Meow was a little surprised to see the green goblin talk, but she soon got used to it and they chatted together for a good long while.

On one occasion, Meow asked him: “So what do you do here?” Godfrey told him that he was the goblin in charge of looking after nature and that his main mission was to make sure the family who lived in the house looked after nature too, that they respected the environment and used renewable energy in their home.

Godfrey also said that in every family in the world there is a goblin keeping an eye on whether they are looking after the world in which we all live. People may not know it, but there’s a little green goblin in each of them, making them think about looking after the planet. Sometimes, the problem is that the little goblin doesn’t manage to achieve his mission and people abuse our planet.

And that’s why Godfrey was a green goblin – because he looked after nature.

THE END
