Short Story for Kids written by: Ulica Tizaber.

Once upon a time, there was a mouse who was a mouse and a pedestrian. He was living on a farm, because he was a woodmouse, and sometimes he made trips to the city.

As a mouse, he used to run all over the floor of the barn really fast, smelling everything that was similar to cheese.

He was very happy being a mouse, but it also had disadvantages, because any time a cat pursued him, the mouse got so nervous that it walked everywhere, banging his head on the walls, getting many bumps. But, as he was a prudent observer, he only met the cat a few times when his concentration lapsed.

Being a pedestrian was a bit more complicated, for he only used this side of himself when he went to the city.

He liked being a pedestrian, but this required more concentration and mental and physical effort.

On the days he went on a trip, he ended up very tired and sleepy. He wore a hat to be a pedestrian, and tied up his tail in order not to drag it behind him and get it dirty. His way of walking was like any other pedestrian.

He stopped at the zebra crossing, made sure the traffic light was green for pedestrians, and then looked to one side and then to the other down the street. If there was no car coming, he crossed the street with a carefree heart as he did not have to run half way across.

This woodmouse was a very smart city pedestrian, because knew how to behave suitably in any situation. This quality made him very special, so at the farm, he was named the traffic education teacher of all the animals. The barn was the place designated for theory lessons, and the city was the place to do practical lessons.

They all trusted him when they went out on a trip. Thanks to his experience, he soon opened an office in the city dedicated to: “How to be an expert on traffic education?”.

He became successful all around the world and, nowadays, the pedestrian mouse manages his own company, and is the most enterprising mouse ever seen.

THE END

Short Story for Kids written by: Alarilla.

Toto was a nine year old boy, who really liked going to class because besides learning lots of things from different subjects, he could play with his friends.

His grandfather John was always taking him to school by the hand to protect him, because they had to cross a few streets where the cars used to go through very fast.

One day, going back home coming from school, they were about to cross one of the streets, when a car went through without respecting the zebra crossing and almost hit them.

Toto and his grandfather had a big fright, the car almost ran over them and the driver did not even stop to check if they were right.

The kid thought that he had to do something, because he had noticed that the cars did not use to respect the zebra crossing nor the speed limits.

Toto had a brilliant idea, he proposed to his teacher to make a road safety education week at school. He knew that the plan he had designed was going to work, and so, the inhabitants in town would be more safe walking around.

Each child had to choose a traffic sign and learn its meaning; then had to explain them at home so their parents helped them and learnt the lesson at the same time.

The last day of the week, the children got dressed up as a traffic sign, and walked all around the village teaching the meaning of the traffic signs and how important is to respect them to make the streets more safe.

The village was really surprised and happy for Toto´s idea. The inhabitants of the village remembered that lesson every time they drove a car, and always respected the traffic signs, and the local government put the traffic signs that were missing.

THE END

Short Story written by: Ruben Araya L.

There was a guanaco who was not happy living with his family, so decided to move to any other place where he could find his happiness. His family was sad when he left.

After a long walk, met a rhea, who asked him what was he doing hanging around there, and he answered that was coming from the high fields in where he left his family.

The guanaco said to the rhea that he might be really happy, because had beautiful wings full of feathers; and the rhea denied it, because he wanted to fly like a condor, and he was only able of running.

The rhea and the guanaco went to look for food, that is fresh grass; to have a delicious banquet, but the rhea and the guanaco were not the only hungry animals there. There were two pumas observing them from a rock, wondering if the rhea meat was delicious or not.

The guanaco heard a noise that made him be alert , told his friend, who was peacefully eating, without any worries:

– “I think somebody is watching us, I am going to check”.

The pumas began to approach them stealthily, the guanaco went to check farther than his friend.

The Rhea didn´t know he was in danger until his friend yelled at him, the rhea began to run leaving the hungry pumas far behind.

The rhea and the guanaco met later again; the rhea thanked his friend, who asked him if he was happy, the rhea said:

– “Of course! My legs make me be a very fast poultry, I think I will go back home, that is not so dangerous, and I can eat relaxed. I don´t want to be free anymore”.

The guanaco went back home too, his family and friends gave him with a big party. He apologized to his parents for not having valued what he had, and they were very happy with him back at home.

And that is the end of the story…

Moral of the story: accept yourself, virtues and defects. And value what you have.

Values of the Story: Family, friendship.

Short Story written by: Luis Muñoz

Lena, Margaret and Josh were three, 6 year old kids. They were very good, but a bit naughty. They were also very good friends at school and in life, and always played together.

One day, when there was no school (because it was Saturday), they played with Lena´s dog, who was always with them and was called Lily. Margaret said to her friends:

– “Do you know what? Tomorrow is Sunday and it is Mother´s Day. What are you giving to your mother?”

Lena and Josh said that they did not have any money to buy anything, and Margaret replied:

– “I don´t have any money either, but I thought that maybe, we could go to the field and collect some flowers to make a bouquet of wild flowers.”

Her friends agreed with this beautiful idea, so, the three friends and Lily, the little dog, went that afternoon to the field after lunch. They were so excited that they didn’t realise that they had gone far from the town. So they decided to go back home as soon as they had the big and beautiful bouquet of flowers.

On the way back home, they got lost. The three of them were very nervous and afraid. Margaret and Lena were crying, but Josh went up a hill to take a look at the horizon and check where they were. But he could just see fields. Suddenly he saw lots of trees and a river. Josh remembered that a river flowed through the town and that maybe this was the same river.

The kids followed the course of the river a bit scared, but their dog guided them to prevent them from any danger.

They walked for about an hour and then they saw the first houses of the village!

The sun was low and it was getting dark. Finally, they arrived home safely, still scared of what had happened.

They could barely sleep that night remembering their adventure in the field.

The day after was Mother´s day. Margaret, Lena and Josh gave the beautiful bouquet to their mothers. The three mums were very happy with their presents and the kids were very happy, but still could not forget the problems they had gotten into the day before.

This story teaches every child that they must never go anywhere alone especially far from town. They must always go with an adult and their parents, and be wary of strange people, and don´t accept anything from a stranger.

THE END

Once upon a time, there was a farmer who owned a flock of one hundred sheep. They went out every day to graze in the leafy fields. One day, one of the sheep disobeyed his master and escaped.

The owner used to advise them not to go far on their own because there was a wolf hanging around those fields that would hurt them.

The naughty sheep had ignored him and had walked away happily. After a while, the owner noticed that one of his sheep was missing and went to look for her very worried, leaving the other 99 sheep alone.

He searched but could not find her and this made him think the worst. Then it started to rain and snow, but the farmer ignored the bad weather and kept on searching for her.

Suddenly he heard a voice, it was somebody asking for help. The farmer ran to the place where the voice was coming from and found the lost sheep there. The wolf was about to eat her but the owner rescued her. Then he brought all his one hundred sheep back home together, and they had a big party to celebratethat they were all together again.

The sheep had learnt his lesson and never disobeyed her owner again.

THE END.

There was a girl in the group who asked the ninjas what was going on. When she found out, she realised that the ninjas wanted to attack her own town!

The girl was so scared. She tried to stop them but could´t, so she hatched a plan.

On the day of the battle, the ninjas had learned lots of techniques to use against their enemy, but what the ninjas didn´t know was that the girl had taught these same techniques to everyone in her town, so they weren´t taken by surprise and fought better.

The town was attacked but won the fight and nobody was hurt. The girl was very happy about saving her town and she went home and went to bed. When she woke up the next day she told her incredible dream to her parents.

One day one of the blackboards disappeared and teachers began to suspect. After searching the school for it one of the pupils found it in the gym.

When the sports teacher took it, he saw something written on it: “I’m the school ghost, meet me this afternoon in the gym, but only children, no teachers!”

The teachers were really scared, but the kids couldn´t wait to meet the ghost. So they all hatched a plan without telling the teachers and left a note in the gym telling the ghost where to meet them the next day.

The next day arrived and all the children were waiting in class for the ghost to come. Suddenly the door opened but nobody was there! Then a white shape began to slowly appear inside the classroom and the kids were totally shocked.

“I´m here to tell you my story! My name is Thomas Edison, do you know me? I invented the light bulb. Do you want to be inventors when you grow up?

“Yesssss!” – said the children.

“So… You have to study and make a big effort to get to be who you wish to be, Don’t stop studying!” – Then he disappeared and the kids stayed there with their mouths open.

The ghost´s advice influenced the kids and they began to study so hard.

There was a turtle called Shelly living in the fields in front of the beach .

Shelly was always very bored due to her slowness, in addition, the rest of the animals were always making fun of her.

Tired of the other animals and their jokes she decided to buy a motorbike so she wouldn´t be the slowest animal any more.

Once she bought it, she used it for everything, and hardly ever walked anywhere.

But she was always driving too fast and the other animals weren´t very happy about it, so they went to complain to the tiger, the traffic manager.

The tiger calmed them promising that the next time the turtle drove so fast, she would be punished by animal law.

The next day, Shelly took her motorbike and began to drive as fast as ever. Suddenly, the tiger appeared behind two trees and stopped her. He advised her not to drive so fast, otherwise she would be fined.

Despite the warning, Shelly kept driving fast, until she crashed into a tree.

Her motorbike was destroyed and she had to pay a big fine because she had not respected the speed limit.

Now the turtle walks everywhere and has learnt her lesson, and has been a model citizen since then.

That day, Kristin was going to look for her cousins, as every afternoon but her mother told her:

“They are not going to the park today because have been disobedient at home”

So Kristine went alone to the park. She was very sad sitting on a bench when her cousins Naomi and Lauren appeared.

The girls smiled her cousin and she ran happily to them.

The two sisters told Christine that her mother had forgiven them.

They were having much fun when Naomi fell and twisted her ankle, her mom took her to the hospital where was healed.

She had to wear a bandage for two weeks, but it didn´t matter because her sister and her cousin stayed with her at home during those weeks, because were very good friends and were always supporting each other.

They were so close that their friendship lasted forever.

Nora was a 3-year old girl who loved strawberry yogurt, and everyday after dinner ate one.

While her parents were watching TV, Nora would open the fridge and look for a yogurt that were on the highest shelf of the fridge. She couldn´t see them because she was still too small, but always ended up finding one by touching the shelf with her hands.

She then used to sit on the sofa with her parents in front of the TV.

Nora always went to bed late and her parents never said anything to her. They actually liked her to watch TV with them until late, so Nora always did what she wanted.

One day, Nora asked her father to show her the tall shelf. He held her in his arms and showed it to her.

When Nora saw an out-of-date strawberry yogurt at the back of the fridge she asked:

– Why is this yogurt so ugly, dad?

– Because we have left it at the back of the fridge, without caring about what´s good for it.

Some years later, when Nora was eighteen, she arrived home and was very rude and mean to her parents.

Her father asked her mother:

– Why does Nora behave in this way?

– Because we have abandoned her at the back of the fridge for all these years…

THE END
