Short Story for Kids written by: Carolina Mora Arévalo.

Nobody wanted to be King of the Vegetable kingdom as it was such a difficult responsibility.

The kingdom was full of all kinds of colors, green spinach, orange carrots, red tomatoes, white onions, yellow peppers, and florets of cauliflower and broccoli everywhere. It was an amazing place full of health and strength.

Messages were sent out around the kingdom for them to choose a King. But nobody wanted to assume the charge. They all preferred other kingdoms like The kingdom of Sweets, The Crab kingdom, or even The Cold Meat kingdom, but nobody wanted The Vegetable kingdom.

Then one day, a little man called Luram, became sick. He was really weak and lost a lot of weight. He became very skinny and could not grow any taller. He was really sick, had no energy, and only wanted to stay in bed. Had no strength to jump or run around.

One day, a fairy called Lily visited him, and invited him to drink a tonic, she was sure that it would be good for him. It was made from the vegetables, pomegranate, blueberries and elderberry.

When Luram drank the tonic that Lily the fairy had prepared for him, he started to feel better, he was full of energy, wanted to play, run around, and jump again. Fairy Lily visited him again, to check how he was feeling and gave him another tonic. He said it was great and so, Lily told Luram:

– “Now you are heathy and strong thanks to the vegetables that you used to reject, accompanied by a few dried berries and fruit. So, it´s time to be thankful to the kingdom of vegetables by giving back the good it has done for you.

Luram started thinking about what might be the best way to do something good for this kingdom.

He first visited all those who were sick, invited them to improve their eating habits; showed them the importance of eating vegetables and fruit every day. Luram invited them to drink a bit of the delicious tonic the fairy had given him. It was so delicious that, when they found out what it was made of, they realized that they could drink it every day, or simply just eat the vegetables and berries it was made from.

The inhabitants of the kingdom immediately realized that little Luram was doing good and that he could be their king. Little Luram answered humbly:

– “I´m not ready to reign yet because I haven´t improved my own eating habits completely, and there are still people here that are not eating like they should. I still have to make everybody understand that not eating vegetables or fruit or berries can make them fat, nevertheless, I will continue working and will only accept the title of: Prince Luram of The Vegetable kingdom.

THE END

Moral of the Short Story for Kids: Do not reject anything before getting to know it.

Values of the Short Story for Kids. To share, Humility, good habits, etcetera.

Once upon a time…

There was a girl called Sophie who really believed in Santa Claus, but the other kids didn´t, and were always telling her not to believe because he was not real. They were always trying to discourage her so that she would stop believing in him.

That year, on the 24th of December Santa Claus arrived. Even those who didn´t believe in him, saw him and he gave them what they wanted for Christmas.

From that moment, the kids always believed in Santa Claus, they knew he was magic and that he gave toys to all the children in the world.

They all agreed it was the best Christmas ever, and have always enjoyed Christmas since then. They asked their friend Sophie for forgiveness because they tried to take away her illusion and faith in Santa Claus.

And that is the end of the story…

Moral of the Short Story for Kids: You have to prove things before you decide that they don´t exist.

Short Story for Kids written by: María de las Mercedes Semhan.

She bent every time somebody wanted to thread her, she resisted contact with a thread. But one day, she saw him and fell in love just looking at him.

It was a special thread, his colors, texture, stretchiness and thickness. Everything was particularly charming.

“It´s the most beautiful thread I’ve ever seen” she exclaimed. She whispered to her family of soft needles and invited them to meet her lovely Mr.Thread.

They observed him, gave their opinion; “He is attractive, but he is a stranger, don´t you think you should know more about him before allowing him take advantage of you”.

“It’s the first time I think I´m in good hands, and I don´t feel the need to avoid him. He is very mysterious because I don´t know where he comes from, or who he is, or what he wants to sew, I just know that if I help him I will feel good”.

The thread joined the paper needle and said:

“Don´t worry, don´t be afraid, you won´t have to sew, we will make a beautiful Christmas decoration together for the Christmas tree this year. I am gold coloured, lonely and old. Thanks for trusting me and discovering that I have something beautiful to give”.

And so, the paper needle and the thread united in love, created the most amazing Christmas Star.

THE END

Short Story written by: T.A.R.B

This is the story of Lily, the lying ant…

Lily the ant is queen of the biggest ant´s nest in the region and today was her birthday. She had organized a festival to celebrate it, a big party where ants came from all around the world to attend.

There were red ants, black ants, weaver ants, leaf cutter ants from South America, and even the strange but friendly crazy ants. They were all there in the big hall, eating and drinking non-stop and they had all brought presents for Lily. It was at that moment when, Lily ant, seeing her friends there altogether, stood on the hall platform and thanked them for coming fro all over the world, and then said:

– “Sisters, I want to tell you my great feat and the reason why I´m now the greatest queen of all ants”

All the ants pricked up their antennas and listened the queen´s words.

-“One sunny afternoon” – said Lily – “when, walking through the leafy and green forest I met a huge and angry buffalo who, proud of his strength, wanted to fight me, but I punched him first and fractured his big jaw. The poor buffalo left crying while I left singing happily. I am Lily, the bravest ant in the forest, everybody fears me and nobody faces me!”

– “Oh! you are the best” – said the weaver ants – “but not the fiercest” – replied the leaf cutter from South America.

-“My fame…” – continued Lily – “has grown so much since then that, one morning during breakfast, a big tiger screamed at me:

Come here brave ant! Everybody in the forest fears you and nobody faces you!

That´s right! – I said, and I kicked him and knocked him down.

I am the bravest ant in the forest, everybody fears me and nobody faces me!” – She continued by saying – “I fought against an elephant, a polar bear, the furious lion and even against tanks of war, but I pushed them all into the water with my little legs. Once in the sea, a shark wanted to eat me, but I bit him and broke his fin.”

Suddenly, there was a big noise in the ant´s nest and a huge red beetle appeared. – “Lily, the ant!” – said the huge insect – “Let´s see if you are as brave as you say, fight with me.”

But Lily was shocked and trembled with fear. She said:

“Dear ants, nobody should lie, as things can go bad for liars. I´m a normal ant. I can´t even pursue a flea. I could die from a frog’s breath.”

At that moment that the beetle said: “I just wanted you to tell the truth.” – And then, he left.

THE END

Short Story written by: Mapy.

In a faraway bog lived three little frogs that were siblings, two girls and a boy called Croky and they all loved singing. The two girls had a very nice voice but Croky did not have the same talent as his sisters and didn´t sing very well.

Croky had a shrill voice. He felt very sad every time his sisters sang and could not understand why he wasn´t like them. He would hide somewhere in the forest to practice, but his voice was always the same.

He was making a big effort to reach his dream, but it wasn’t working. One day when he thought he was alone he started crying. Suddenly, he heard a noise behind and stopped automatically.

He looked up and saw an old turtle coming towards him:

-“What´s wrong?” – asked the turtle

-“Well, nothing…” – Croky said – “Actually, I´m sad because I love singing but I´m not able to sing like my sisters who have great voices”.

– “Ok, so you think you can´t sing like your sisters,” – said the turtle with thoughtful look – “ok, let´s try something…”

The old turtle stood up and began to walk, Croky followed her until they came to a big cave: “I´m going inside the cave, you have to sing as loud as you can to make sure I can hear you from the cave. Try to enunciate clearly, meanwhile I will approach you little by little” – said the old turtle – “is that clear?”

– “It´s clear, but I´m not sure I’ll be able to.” – replied the little frog.

The race day arrived and Lily had a little secret. She had hooked the fireworks onto her back.

After the start signal Lily ran faster than ever. Her friends were left way behind with their mouths open, it was unbelievable!

Suddenly Lily began to scream, running from one side to other, around and around and she hit her head on the trees and plants. Then she ran towards her friends and they tried to escape from her.

Finally Lily stopped and collapsed exhausted while her friends looked on, astonished. That’s when she decided to tell them the truth which her friends did not like very much.

Lily had learnt a lesson and understood that if she kept lying to her friends they would not trust her anymore.

THE END

Ghosty was the king of the ghosts and everybody in his kingdom admired him. He was the best, the most handsome and the wisest ghost they had.

They all wanted to support him. Every morning lots of volunteers were at the door of his castle waiting to help him and so he was never alone as he always had someone to do things for him.

One day the ghosts asked Ghosty to teach them everything he knew. First they asked him to show them his scare methods, but Ghosty didn´t actually know how, because he had never done anything for himself. He just said he was tired, made an excuse and went to bed.

The next day they asked him to show them how to be elegant like him, but he did not know about that either and said: “I´m the only one that can be so elegant, so forget it” and the rest said: “Oh! He is so smart!”

Then they asked him how could they be as smart as him and he didn’t know what to say. This made Ghosty think about things and realised that if they kept asking him stuff, they would end up discovering how useless he was when nobody helped him.

So, he decided to stop lying and tell the truth: “You all think I´m the wisest of ghosts just because I´m your king, but I can´t do anything on my own because you are always helping me! So, from now on I will do everything without any help and become the king you all deserve!”

THE END

Mely was 5-years old and her mother was the queen of all kingdoms.

Everybody knew her as “Little princess” because she was so small and cute and always smiling.

But, unfortunately, her mother died and the poor little princess became the only heir to the kingdom at 5-years old.

So, little Mely became the queen of the Kingdom. People didn´t like the idea because she was still too young but Mely was very smart. She had been with her mother during her entire reign and had learnt from her. But the most important value she had learnt was honesty.

One of the queen´s counselors wanted to take advantage of the situation and planned to discredit Mely and so disinherit her. In this way he would become King.

The adviser worked on his plan and began to speak badly of the little queen in the palace´s corridors, but Mely heard him and had an idea.

She convened all the townspeople in the main square to explain to them what the adviser was doing.

“I´m going to be a good queen. My age doesn´t matter, what matters is that I am not marred by adults politics. I will always be honest with you. The advisor was then expelled from the Kingdom for being a traitor. “We want honest values in our town!”

And that´s how Moly became one of the most valued queens ever, and people in town really loved her because she was nice and honest with them.

THE END

Once upon a time there was a prince living in a kingdom with his parents the King and the Queen. He was known as “The infant”

He was 8 years old, and nobody in the village wanted him to become the prince because they all said that he was cursed.

One day he asked his father: “ Why do people say I´m cursed?”

The King told him that a witch had said it when he was a baby, and although it was a lie, some people had believed her.

The infant was very sad, and his father decided to teach a lesson to those people to make his son feel happier.

One night he went to the prince´s room and gave him a black cape and a diadem with two horns and told him what to do and then waited.

The boy went out onto the balcony and said: “I am the devil, I have just eaten my parents, I will eat you too if you don´t obey me!”

The people in the kingdom were very scared, the prophecy of the witch was real, or that´s what they thought…

Those who liked gossip ran away from the kingdom, and the rest stayed in the village and lived happily forever in the kingdom.

The infant became the King some years later and all the citizens loved him.
