….”Follow me! I will wait for you at the top of that mountain!”

And he flew away. The turtle did not hesitate to go to that distant place.

She walked through places she had never been before, saw things she had never seen before, and heard noises that were new for her.

Finally, after making a big effort, she arrived to the top of the mountain, where the bird was waiting for her. With her head lowered, looking at the ground, tired from her difficult journey, she recognized the bird´s legs and looked up at him.

– “Are you ready to fly?”.

The turtle was shocked and amazed enjoying the beauty of the bird’s wings, sometimes blinded when they made curtains in front of his eyes.

– “Walk some steps, walk until I say… there!, now, close your eyes!

The bird flew up, leaving behind him the most beautiful view of the beach from that height.

– “Breath deeply! Feel the wind on your face!” – he was whispering into her ear flying beside her – “Now, open your eyes and enjoy your flight!”

Her body didn´t seem to be so heavy at all. She could feel the strong breeze between her legs, as if they were wings. From afar, she could see the stone where she used to sit and watch the birds flying. Her life was so beautiful from this height, part of the landscape but distant at the same time.

– “Never raise your expectations! Let the world surprise you” – said the little bird.

The turtle understood the amazing secret for the first time. She understood that kind of happiness for the first time.

Back on the beach, sitting on her stone, she was never the same never again. She could now see the birds and fly with them. She only needed to close her eyes, to feel the breeze on her body, as though she had wings.

She could feel the colours, the smells, the sounds around her. She felt like she was part of that immensity in spite of being so small.

And, above all, she never stopped hearing that soft voice whispering into her ear, saying: “Enjoy your flight!”. Making her really happy ever since.

And that is the end of the story…

Short Stories for Kids written by: Raúl Simao Ferraz.

This is my story, the story of a turtle with no fear, a turtle with no fear that wanted to fly. I´m not saying she wasn’t scared but I am saying she was brave, and her enthusiasm for flying was stronger than her fear to try it.

Every morning, after eating, she used to go to the beach. There, she walked slowly on the sand, feeling every grain between her toes, taking the same way as always, until she arrived at a stone where she used to spend many hours.

She could feel the immensity of the world from there. The bay was eternally swirling without rest, and together with the sea, the wind whispered its music from the bottom of the earth to the top of the mountains, and they left some of the musical notes for herself.

But, what she most liked, was to see the birds hovering in the air, being a part of the landscape but so far from her at the same time. Only with their wings spread out, nothing else!

– “They may know something I don´t know” – wondered the turtle.

She thought she thought she could discover their incredible secret, and that if she could then she would be able to see the world in other way. If she could feel the freedom of the breeze…

One morning, a little bird perched on her shell, and asked her incessantly:

– “Why do you come here every day, stopping on the same stone? Is it because you are green? Where do you come from? How old are you? Why are you so old?…”

The turtle couldn´t see him, but could hear and feel the bird’s weight of her legs.

– “I just come to see you fly, I can’t believe you can do it” ´replied the turtle.

The little bird dropped down from the shell and walked curiously around the turtle:

– “You can´t be that big and not be able to fly! Have you ever flown? I have flown ever since I can remember”.

– “I don´t know how to do it! my body is too heavy and I have no wings!” – said the turtle.

The little bird flew around and around her, until it looked like they were both flying, watching from afar, as the turtle stretched out her neck trying to follow him dancing.

– “Follow me! I will wait for you at the top of that mountain!”

And the bird flew away. The turtle did not hesitate to go to that distant place.

New Short Story for boys and girls written by: Juan Pablo Urcola (Argentina).

Once upon a time, under a leafy tree situated in a beautiful garden, there was a little frog who had made a cave between the tree´s roots.

The frog Mimi used to croak every day until midday, when the sun illuminated her door.

When this happened, Mimi went out of her cave through moss and the morning dew, hiding somewhere, looking for flies, mosquitos, worms and ants.

One morning, while she was tuning her throat to sing her serenade as always, a big storm began, and drop after drop, the rain was so strong.

Hours passed, and the rain was not stopping. Mimi needed to go out to look for some food, but how could she get out her little cave with such a storm?.

One of Mimi´s characteristics was that she never gave up easily, she actually used to hatch a plan in order to beat difficulties and reach her purposes every¡y day.

Mimi hatched the next plan:

Number one: Search for fallen leaves outside the cave´s door.

Number two: Don´t be afraid at all.

Number three: Be really careful outside under the rain.

Number four: Tie the leaves and weave them together, making a little survival canoe.

Number five: Get on the canoe and have confidence, the plan will work.

And so, Mimi, the wise frog, went rowing through the garden, carefully and with confidence. Rowing through puddles in the graden, searching for her usual food.

Her plan was so successful that had food left for the next day. So, went under the leafy tree, the sun rays were already shinning after the storm, and she could enjoy what she most liked to do; croaking, singing, croaking…

“Croak, croak, croak, ribbit, ribbit, ribbit, I am singing because I am happy, croak, croak, croak, gribbit gribbit, gribbit. I am singing because I overcame my fair”

THE END.

New Short Story for Kids written by: Carolina Mora Arévalo.

Once upon a time…

There was a lively and playful little girl called Naomi, her parents and her brother loved her so much, she was a blessing in the house, filling the house with happiness and laughs.

One day, when she finished school, the teacher called her mom to warn her that had noticed that something was not going well with the little girl. The parents rushed her to visit the doctor, who confirmed that she had a serious illness.

But the little did not give up, and decided to fight against the illness, she was actually very fragile, was only three years old, but motivated her parents and her brother to don´t give up due to her bravery and her battle.

She had to get many medical treatments and studies, nevertheless her strength and determination helped the family to not shatter. Nomi not only overcame her fair to injections, she finally overcame the disease.

She is today stronger than ever, nothing can destroy her; and the most important, she has never lost her joy. She is a warrior, fragile as crystal, and and example of life to everybody.

She taught us that there is nothing we cannot overcome; and each child of the world should be a “crystal warrior” as she is.

THE END

Short Story for Kids written by: Lucre, Agustina, Melisa y Julieta.

Once upon a time there was a girl that was ballet dancer. Until one day, her favorite shoes broke.

On her way home remembered that she could buy the same shoes at the shop beside her house. So ran to the shop; but when she was going to pay realized that did not have enough money from her savings, and so, she left.

A friend gave her money for her birthday, so she had money to buy a new pair of dancing shoes.

But, when she went to the shop, there were no more shoes like those left. All the pairs had been sold. She asked the woman of the shop and she said that only had a pair of magic shoes left; the girl was confused; but she bought them anyway because was in a harry, saying:

-“Oops! It´s too late!”

The next day, she went to her ballet lessons. The tournament in which she was registered with great hope, had begun. When finally was her turn her magic shoes worked perfectly.

-“They are really magic!” – said the girl enthusiastic.

When the competition finished, the girl wan, thanks to the big effort she had made training, and the magic shoes.

- “Who takes care of the garden vegetables the same or more than George, the farmer?”

Our dear scarecrow; he was very good. Sophie and her mom made it with her dad´s old clothes. They put him a brown hat which had a yellow feather, a violet shirt and black trousers, he looked lovely.

From far, he looked like a real person, because he also had a wig and glasses. But the most important was that he was fulfilling his function. Because if the scarecrow was not there, all the birds, even Lily bird, who was Sophie’s friend, would eat all the seeds every time that george seeded, and the vegetable would never grow.

The scarecrow did his duty every day, protecting the harvest of the family. That is why the whole family loved him that much, because he was always taking care of the field, and he always made the others happy with his smile and his good mood. The scarecrow always saw the good side of things, was very optimistic.

THE END

Short Story written by: María Morales.

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful flower with very attractive colors: brilliant red; orange and yellow. The flower was very happy, because everybody said she was beautiful. One day began to rain during sunrise and did not stop until nightfall.

When the flower woke up the next day opened her petals and realized that they had lost their color. Now were white like the snow. What had happened? The flower was so sad, could not stop crying. Suddenly, a fairy wearing a dress with a long tail and colored like the rainbow, appeared:

– “What´s wrong, beautiful flower? why are you crying?”

-“Because I have lost my lovely colors, the rain, last night, has erased them completely”

– “Don´t worry! I will give you them back thanks to these magic markers; but under one condition…”

-“Which one?” – asked the flower.

“I want you to delight everybody with your colors, but also with a nice perfume”..

The flower accepted, and the fairy spilled on her a liquid from a little perfume bottle, and the other flowers and field inhabitants could enjoy the smell of that slight perfume.

Then, the fairy took the magic markers and painted the flower’s petals with patience, until she was as beautiful as before.

The flower thanked the fairy and promised he that would keep flooding the field with her perfume, sharing it with everybody.

THE END

A drop of rain fell onto the street and a little frog that was hanging around asked:

“Where do you come from?”

“I fell from a cloud, and many more will fall soon”

“Cool! So they will make puddles in whick I can play!. How did you fall?” – it added.

Yesterday we were very high up in the clouds, all together. Suddenly, a cold breeze hit us, pushed us with all its strength and we fell from the cloud!

“Oh! your are so lucky to be able to hang around so high up!”

“Yes, it´s fantastic, we can see all the landscape from up there”

“And now the leaves of the plants will become really green, and the flowers will be more colourful!” – shouted the frog.

“Sure! and there will be good harvest emerging from the cultivated fields!” – said the drop of rain.

“And what will happen when the drops stop falling?” – asked the frog worried.

“We will wait for the sun to come out, and then we will go up into the cloud again, and water other places”, said the drop.

“Well, I´m going to look for my friends to play in the puddles and sing a bit” – and he left jumping happily.

Another drop had fallen on a window pane, and a kid called John looked at the wet roads with a sad face, holding his ball and thinking that he couldn’t go out to play. Then, the drop ran down the glass and said to the kid: “Why don’t you look for a paper boat and come out to play in the puddles, you will have so much fun!”

Some snails came out in the garden due to the rain, and a sleepy turtle put her head out and began to walk slowly to take a bath. The birds were curled up on the branches of the trees, shaking there little feathers while waiting for the rain to stop so they could start singing.

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Martha, the grandmother cooked delicious fried pastries, Mario, the grandfather, watched a movie as beside him, his granddaughter Emma, was drawing in a colouring book.

Rainy days are so beautiful !

Short Story written by: Ulica Tizaber.

Kika was a very wise little mouse, who lived in a stationery shop where pencils, sheets, markers, notebooks, toys and books were sold. She was actually a stuffed toy inside a plastic box.

She was a happy stuffed toy, because she was doing what she liked; reading, watching people going by; and if they had a book in their hands, she used to read the title and memorize it. She didn’t know why she had that gift, but she did and, at the end of the day, she counted the number of books that had been sold and learnt new words every day.

One day, a girl went into the shop, and didn’t know what to give to her boyfriend for Valentine´s day, but when she saw Kika, she leaped on her, asked for her to wrapped and took the package home with her. Kika felt like she was going crazy as she would no longer be able to read books or see people inside the shop.

The noise of some paper and some voices woke her up…“What have you given me?” I told you I didn’t want anything for this commercial Valentine’s day.”

“Just open it, and then tell me what you think.”

Kika waited anxiously inside her plastic box then suddenly saw a surprise face. “That´s what I was looking for, Where did you find it?”

“In a stationery shop. I saw it with her cute eyes looking like a smart stuffed toy, with her hair and the red bow on her tail…and I was delighted”

Kika began to feel loved, they looked at her with affection and she felt better, at least that day. The day after, she was put inside a suitcase, and she felt sad again.

“Am I always going to be in the dark? I want to go back to my shop!”

She woke up again to strange noises of people speaking in a different language. She was really curious, and suddenly, somebody took her out of the suitcase and sat her on one side of a little bag. She could see everything from there. She read some posters and could also read the shop and street names and the menus in restaurants. She was in her environment and was the happiest stuffed toy in the world.

Suddenly, she realized that she was reading new things that did not have the same structure like her book titles. She learnt new words, new expressions, even new languages. In fact, she might be the only stuffed toy able to speak Nepalese or Indian.

What a different period was about to begin. She was very thankful to the girl that bought her, and would always be thankful. She stayed with the couple for many years and she even learnt the language of babies because she later became the favorite stuffed toy of the couple´s daughter.

On day, Kika disappeared. What a pity for the couple, they had lived lots of good times with her. They never found her and could never replace her. But what they didn’t know was that Kika had decided to become independent. She had jumped from the buggy and had walked down the street looking for new adventures.

Nowadays, Kika is fine. She lives in a toy shop window and that brings back memories of the affection she had given to her favourite couple and baby. She feels like the luckiest stuffed toy of the planet, because she is happy wherever she is and because she will always carry everything she has learnt over the years with her.

THE END

Short Story written by: Cristina Velazquez

Once upon a time, there was a monkey and a tiger; that were tired of always doing the same things and so they set out to find a new place to live . They walked a lot before finding it, but when they did, it was the most beautiful place they had ever seen. The mountains were different and varied in height, some high, some small, and some with a beautiful green colour from the trees and plants living on the mountain side.

They stayed there and the monkey dug a hole with his hands and a cave for both of them. Days passed, and they were very happy there, looking for food and playing with other animals.

One morning they noticed that there were people up on the hills and so they stayed there quietly observing everything. People were coming and going from one mountain to another and it looked like they were building something, but our friends could not discover what.

After a few weeks they saw a beautiful train, called the happiness train which ran through the mountains carrying lots of kids who looked out of the train and pressed their noses against the windows. After a few days of this coming and going, Lolo (the monkey) and Coco (the tiger) couldn´t wait anymore and ran to the top of the mountain to wait for the train.

As soon as they saw it they jumped onto the roof and put their snouts against the windows and saw the kids´ noses on the other side. Their first reaction was one of fright, but Lolo and Coco then began to make funny faces and the kids burst out laughing. The laughter was so loud that the guards went to check what was going on, and as soon as they saw the situation began to laugh as loud as the kids.

When the tour finished, the train driver went to talk to Lolo and Coco and gave them food and asked them to come back the next day.

They have gone there at the same time every day since then, waiting for the train and having fun with all the kids inside. They always receive food and affection and realised that this was the life they had always wanted to live. They hugged each other and said:

“We are very happy”

THE END.
