Once upon a time…

There was a girl that worked really hard because her two stepsisters and her stepmother ordered her to do many chores.

The royal ball was coming soon and this time the prince was going to choose a princess from his kingdom, to marry.

The day of the ball Naomy really wanted to go but she couldn’t because her stepmother asked her to clean everything, wash the clothes, feed the animals and other tasks.

When Naomy finished doing everything she realised that she did not have a dress to wear to the ball and was very sad. Suddenly a fairy godmother appeared and said that she was going to grant her three wishes. Naomy accepted.

Naomy´s first wish was to have a very beautiful dress, her second wish was for a pair of crystal heels, and her third wish was to have an awesome carriage.

When Naomy arrived at the ball, the prince was hypnotized by her beauty and asked her to dance with him immediately.

When the party finished Naomy had neither told the prince her name nor the place where she was living. When the prince asked her it was too late as Naomy had to arrive home before ten o´clock so that her stepmother wouldn´t know that she had gone out.

Finally, the prince found the girl and they became very good friends and then they got married.

And that is the end of the story…

Click to read: FROG CROAKY (FIRST PART)

…One night, when all the lights were switched off, a particular dew settled on the garden, and a chorus of voices filled the air which tasted like honey.

Helen saw lights jingling as fireflies approached them, and when one of them sat on her shoulders she thought she was hearing voices whispering in her ear, but that had to be impossible. Nevertheless, a sweet and melodic sound interrupted the silence:

– “Don´t cry” it said.

The voice was now really clear. Shocked, she fell backwards to the ground and as she sat up she watched as those green and grey lights became smaller and a woman dressed in brown autumn colours appeared instead.

Tiny and shiny, the woman could fit in the palm of a hand. Helen opened her eyes, rubbed them many times, until finally, she asked what was she doing there.

The fairy introduced herself and introduced the others who were with her too. They were all very sad because they had heard Helen sobbing from their houses at the top of the trees.

The rabbit was also there and came out of his den, the squirrel too, who left her wet corner, even the snake woke up from her lethargy.

Obviously, there was quite a stir that night. Helen’s worrying had reached all their hearts. Suddenly, the fairies began to exchange knowing looks, laughs and whispers. They had come up with a plan.

One of them shook her wand and pointed it up to the sky, and an emerald green light sparkled. Then, all of them said loudly:

-“Your wish will be done!”

Croaky´s eyes opened as if by magic, blinking. Helen was shocked and excited at the same time, her cry scared all the inhabitants of the forest who jumped for joy when they found out what had happened.

Helen held Croaky in her arms and gave her the most tender of kisses. The little frog had returned from her dreamy illness, and only love, real love could have made this miracle happen.

THE END

Helen was a smiling and rebellious girl, who lived with her parents in the house they had inherited from her grandmother Martha.

She fell in love with the garden immediately, and with the lush ivy growing around the balconies and columns.

A splendid lemon tree blossomed with a hundred colours. Young fruit hung from the thin branches, grazing the green ground. There was a grey plot behind, which was where she met her for the first time.

She was sitting looking at the pasture, waiting for who knows what, with her eyes half-closed due to the incessant drizzle in the sunshine. Helen approached her carefully not to scare her too much and then hesitated:

-“Hello”

The greeting that came back was both low and high-pitched, saying “Croak“. A large smile appeared on Helen’s striking face and from that moment, she and the sweet little frog to whom she baptized “Croaky”, became inseparable friends.

After a long time of friendship and sharing the little frog became ill. Helen was worried but nobody paid attention to a girl´s caprice especially when it was just a sick frog.

They could not understand what Croaky meant to Helen. So, the girl waited for a miracle, and prayed the whole day and night crossing her hands over her chest.

Days passed but Croaky did not recover. Helen sobbed intensely with sadness in her heart and then something unexpected happened…

TO BE CONTINUED…

…The strange thing was that, the more vegetables he gave away, the more lettuces, chard, tomatoes, etc, were left in the wheelbarrow. And he was so happy to receive kisses, hugs and thankful words from the parents of his classmates who used to make fun of him calling him “fat”.

Next day he went to his vegetable garden to plant more seeds, but was shocked when saw that many vegetables had sprouted and that there were an endless number of chard, lettuces and tomatoes. It was incredible and his parents were astonished when he told them over dinner.

-“Lolo, we are so proud of you and of your good heart. Several mums have thanked me for the food you gave them yesterday. They said you are a very good kid, and Dad and I feel really proud of you. Besides this, you have lost some weight because your trousers and shirts are too big for you and so now you need smaller clothes”.

Over the following days, even though Lolo collected his vegetables every afternoon, the next morning the garden was full of vegetables, which Lolo happily distributed to his neighbors, helping many needy families, who were very thankful for Lolo´s generosity.

His parents were so surprised at these strange events, that they decided to go to the vegetable garden one night to discover what was going on while their son was sleeping.

They were astonished when saw many rabbits, mice, squirrels and birds working the land, directed by a very pretty blond fairy, that, who used her magic powders, to accelerate the budding process of the seeds that Lolo had been buying every afternoon using the money for the snacks and candies that he no longer ate.

One morning, when he woke up to go to school his mum almost fainted when she saw that Lolo was not a fat boy anymore. Thanks to the good fairy, he had turned into a handsome and slender student.

His mother hugged him and called his father. The three of them were really happy and later at school, the pupils and Mr.Adams, the teacher, congratulated Lolo who was not an alienated kid anymore but the most loved boy by his classmates.

Several years passed and Lolo grew to be a handsome and smart guy. His neighbors lent him land to sow all kind of vegetables and fruit trees. And the miracle of the food proliferation happened every day thanks to his work and goodness.

Those who know him will tell you that every afternoon, several trucks carrying food leave the small town were Angel lives with his parents, to bring happiness to hundreds of needy families from all the towns and cities around.

His parents, Josh and Sarah were suprised to see their son so very different from lunch time. Was their son sick?”

On Saturday morning, Lolo went to his parents vegetable garden and took the tools that his dad, Josh, lent him. He made different holes to put the seeds in and gave his lunch to the birds flying around, giving them the crumbs from his bread and olive oil.

He gave the cheese in his sandwich to the naughty mice that were jumping around waiting for him to leave so they could eat the seeds, and to the rabbits, who were watching him curiously. He gave gave walnuts to the playful squirrels to satisfy their hunger.

Lolo sweated so much that morning, but when he saw how well he had planted the seeds that were going to become food for poor children, he was so proud of himself.

He went inside the house, ate happily, was hungry with out excess like a normal boy and did not ask for “seconds” when his mom offered him a delicious creme caramel, his favorite dessert.

For many days after class,he went to his vegetable garden to water the land and tend to the crops he had sown.

Then one afternoon, when he went to the vegetable garden he unexpectedly found that many lettuces, chard, tomatoes, onions and cucumbers had sprouted.

Later on, he collected all the vegetables using his dad´s wheelbarrow and went to the houses of the poorest children in the town and gave them part of the amazing harvest he had reaped.

Short Story for Kids written by: Carlos Cebrian González.

His name was Angel, but everybody called him Lolo since he was little.

He was a sad, selfish kid, an only child and very lonely, because he was always thinking about eating, and became so fat that his class mates rejected him.

Hi parents, Josh and Sarah used to give him some money every day to buy a snack. He did not lack anything, but he missed the company of a friend, and the appreciation of the other boys and girls who lived in the town. His loneliness made him quite sad.

Lolo enjoyed eating cake, fried chips and popcorn after school, unaware of the other boys and girls’ economic problems. They did not have money to buy sweets and candies because they were poor.

This was his life, getting fatter and being hostile towards the others becuase of rejection. Then, one day, their teacher explained that children in Africa were hungry and had no food.

That afternoon, after school, as Lolo searched inside his pockets for the coins his mum had given him that morning to buy a cupcake and a bar of chocolate, he remembered what his teacher had said about Africa.

He sat on a bench situated in the town’s main square facing the candy shop, and for the first time forgot he was hungry.

“What´s wrong with me?…Why am I not buying popcorn or one of those giant, delicious lollipops?” – He was about to enter the shop when a good fairy appeared and reminded Lolo that there were many poor people, not only in Africa, but also in his own town, that didn´t have enough food.

The fairy asked him:

-“Lolo, do you know how many seeds could you buy with the money your parents give you?”

-“Why are you talking about seeds?” said Lolo, “I don´t want seeds. I´m not a bird. I want to buy candy because I haven´t eaten in a few hours and I´m hungry”.

-“Trust me Lolo, you will gain weight if you keep eating sweets, and children will never stop teasing you, and you will feel really bad if they reject you. But if you and me make a deal, you will loose weight and everybody will appreciate you”.

-“Ok fairy. I accept your deal, what should I do?” – asked Lolo not too excited for having lost the snacks he wanted to devour.

-“Well done, Lolo you have made the right choice. Now go and buy seeds to plant chard, lettuce, tomatoes and onions”.

– “But I´m not a farmer! I can´t work on the vegetable garden. My dad does that”. Lolo was scared of the responsibility he was going to have to accept working on the vegetable garden.

- “Tell your parents that you want to plant vegetables in a small part of your vegetable garden, and that what you grow you will give to poor children, I´m sure they will encourage you to do it. You have to know that cultivating a vegetable garden is very good exercise for losing weight, so you will lose that annoying roll of fat that disturbs you when you run, walk, and play football with your class mates during breaktime”.

TO BE CONTINUED…

When John arrived home, he went to introduce his new friends to the car, but was so disappointed when none of the toys spoke.

-“What´s wrong? they´re not talking” – John said.

-“It´s normal, the toy fairy has not touched them with her magic wand. Call her”, said the car.

– “And, how do we do that?” – asked John.

– “Very easily, you just say the magic words, which are: toot, toot, toot, run run run, beep, beep, toy fairy…please appear now!”, said the car.

John said the magic words and suddenly, the toy fairy appeared in a beautiful racing car.

– “I´m here! Who is calling me?” – asked the fairy.

– “I did” – said John.

“How can I help you?” – asked the fairy.

-“I have bought new toys to keep my friend the car company, but they don´t talk. Can you make them talk?” – asked John.

-“No problem, but you have to do something first. I see you have many toys, and there are other children who don´t have any. You have to give one of your toys to a boy or a girl who doesn´t have anything to play with“.

-“I agree, that´s fair.” – said John.

John decided to give the boat to his friend and neighbor Tina who he used to play with sometimes in the park.

Tina did not have toys because her father and her mother didn’t have a job and the only money they had was for buying food and clothes. When John gave the toy boat to Tina she was very happy because there was a pond in the park and they could play there with her toy boat.

After giving Tina the present, John went back home where the fairy was waiting for him. Sitting on her racing car, she touched the toys one by one with her magic wand and they began to talk.

– “Hi!” – said the van.

– “Good afternoon!” – said the truck.

-“How are you?” – asked the toy plane.

This is how each of them introduced themselves. The car was happy, John was happy too, now, they had many friends to play and talk with.

From that moment, John and Tina became very good friends. He spent many hours playing with her in the park with the talking toys.

John won a very special friend and learnt that he was immensely happy to share what he had with others.

THEN END

Moral of the story: If you have a lot you may feel good or you may not. But if you share what you have, you will be doubly happy for sure. And you will also make another person as happy as you.
Once upon a time…

There was a kid called John who had a toy car that he used to take with him everywhere. It was his favourite toy.

One day he was playing with his car at home, when he heard a voice saying:

– “Don´t throw me so hard, I might break!”

John looked around to see where the voice was coming from. Nobody else was in the room and he was alone.

-“Here! It´s me, don´t you see me? I’m down here!” – said the voice.

John looked down and found that it was the small car talking to him, so, he said:

-“You can talk?”

-“Yes, like you” – the car answered.

-“But cars don´t talk!” – replied John.

– “I do” – said the car.

John was very happy, and from that moment, the boy and the car had long conversations and so much fun.

One day, John arrived home from school and ran into his room to see his friend the car. He asked him how his day had been, but the car didn’t say a word.

-“What´s wrong, dear friend?”- asked John.

– “I am a bit sad because when you go I have no other friend to talk to”

– “Don´t worry I will bring you some friends to stay with you” – John said.

John went to the toy shop the next day and with his savings bought a beautiful van, a big red truck, a racing motorbike, a sailing boat and a big yellow plane. John spent all his money….

Short Story for Children written by: Carolina Mora Arevalo.

The fairies are flying around when they see grandpa. He is a nice man who has always believed in giving love and affection to his family.

When he looks for calm amongst the flowers and fruit in his vegetable garden, he discovers that he is picking the fairies´unconditional love, the same values that he instilled in his family.

One of the fairies called Shanna represents generosity. She flaps happily towards grandpa but does not find the moment to offer him her presents.

The second fairy is called Sissi, she is solidarity. She is always ready to support, not just Grandpa, but also everybody who is around her.

Shelly, is the commitment fairy. She is always ready and does not leave things undone. Shelly is a fairy who always accompanies Grandpa and takes care of him.

Camila is the next, a naughty and lively fairy, who is happy climbing the trees to collect her own fruit, but she always shares them with everybody near grandpa.

Pippi is the cooperative fairy, a little fairy who makes every effort to leave everything perfectly in place before flying away.

And the youngest fairy is called Carol, a fairy full of love and tenderness who represents the value of friendship. She appreciates all the other fairies´company and grandpa´s. She always hugs them to show her affection.

When the colourful fairies arrived little by little into grandpa´s life, he grew so fond of them, and he realized that they were also attracted to him as he gave them values that each of them developed to a greater extent.

Nowadays, they wait for each other in the vegetable garden to live together and enjoy sowing, picking, walking, talking and learning more from grandpa´s experience.

That is the end of the story…
