Short Story for Kids written by: Carolina Mora Arévalo.

Karen went for a walk in a beautiful garden, full of tulips and butterflies. The little girl loved nature and always enjoyed the fresh wind blowing through her hair.

She ran from one side to the other, taking care not to damage the flowers in the beautiful garden.

Suddenly, behind a big bush, she found a swing made from tree branches. Karen Did not hesitate for a second and jumped onto the swing, and began swinging so the wind dishevelled her hair.

She felt free and happy, surrounded by the flowers, the wind and the birds. The swing filled her heart with freedom. It didn´t matter how little she was, she knew clearly what she liked. How she enjoyed the swing!

Karen then ran on until she found a bridge. From it, she watched a green frog playing in the water. Karen picked up th frog and was tickled by the drops of water that the frog splashed on her hands. The she let her go, as she understood that the frog was scared.

Karen ran on, enjoying the garden when suddenly, she found a birds nest full of little chicks waiting for their mum to bring them food.

Karen observed them closely, without scaring them, and enjoying their hungry twittering. When the mother arrived the girl moved away in order to let her feed her little ones.

After a long time running and enjoying the garden, Karen fell asleep with a big smile on her face due to the beautiful day she had had playing among the tulips.

And that is the end of the story…

-Moral of the story: Those who respect and enjoy nature live in a happy world.

Values of the story: Respect and love.

His parents, Josh and Sarah were suprised to see their son so very different from lunch time. Was their son sick?”

On Saturday morning, Lolo went to his parents vegetable garden and took the tools that his dad, Josh, lent him. He made different holes to put the seeds in and gave his lunch to the birds flying around, giving them the crumbs from his bread and olive oil.

He gave the cheese in his sandwich to the naughty mice that were jumping around waiting for him to leave so they could eat the seeds, and to the rabbits, who were watching him curiously. He gave gave walnuts to the playful squirrels to satisfy their hunger.

Lolo sweated so much that morning, but when he saw how well he had planted the seeds that were going to become food for poor children, he was so proud of himself.

He went inside the house, ate happily, was hungry with out excess like a normal boy and did not ask for “seconds” when his mom offered him a delicious creme caramel, his favorite dessert.

For many days after class,he went to his vegetable garden to water the land and tend to the crops he had sown.

Then one afternoon, when he went to the vegetable garden he unexpectedly found that many lettuces, chard, tomatoes, onions and cucumbers had sprouted.

Later on, he collected all the vegetables using his dad´s wheelbarrow and went to the houses of the poorest children in the town and gave them part of the amazing harvest he had reaped.

New Short Story for Children written by: Rosa Maria Martin – Moreno Navarro.

Mathew was a kid living in a small town beside small mountains. He liked to watch the sky every night, searching for the moon to watch it and admire it.

Sometimes he looked at her so much that his eyes were hurting, and used to end up falling asleep on the edge of the window.

His mother worked in a bakery, and sometimes made a small white and rounded bread, with two eyes and a smiling mouth to give it to her son saying:

– “Here Mathew I brought you a little moon”.

Mathew really liked it, they did not have much money to buy toys, Mathew´s dad had lost his job four years ago.

Mathew watched the sky every night to see his friend the moon, but he was scared on cloudy nights when he could not see the moon, and used to call his parents to ask them why could he not find it.

His father explained him that the clouds were covering it, but sometimes, specially in summer, there was no moon, but the sky was full of shiny stars. One night his mother said:

– “Mathew, don´t worry about your friend the moon, she is sleeping, she has to rest also to shine intensely”.

Mathew was shocked, he finally understood why was the moon hiding sometimes.

Summer passed and winter arrived, it was a hard winter, so hard that rained almost every night, and it was snowing sometimes.

Mathew spent more than a month without seeing his friend the moon, he was so sad that became sick, so sick that there was no medicine to treat him.

TO BE CONTINUED…

Short story written by: Ruderico Diaz (Venezuela)

From a beautiful flower, yellow like the sun, was born a beautiful green fruit named mango.

He was growing on a tree and his colour was slowly changing.

The mango was increasingly concerned about his waist, it was bigger every morning until the branch could barely support the weight of the fruit and so the poor mango thought:

– “If I keep growing, the branch will let me fall and I will die”

One day the branch could not support his weight any more and the mango fell to the ground. When he woke up he realised that the birds had taken his beautiful skin and he only had his heart left.

The worried mango was thinking about his unprotected heart lying on the ground, when a tree took him and said:

– “Don´t worry little mango, you are going to be the most beautiful tree.” – And he planted him right there.

The mango started to feel the roots growing from his heart and understood that every living being is connected to nature.

THE END

Cuento en español

Willy the bear lived in a beautiful place in the middle of a mountain range full of green fields that nobody knew about.

One day when he woke up found out something devastating. Some of the trees had died!

“What has happened to you?”- said Willy with tears in his eyes.

It was the best place in the world for Willy, surrounded by so much nature and life, thousands of trees, no pollution and fresh air.

But a group of men had just discovered his magic place. Willy tried to scare them away by roaring and raising his arms. The men were terrified until Willy said: ” Ge, ge, ge, get out of he, he, he, here!” – and then they all started laughing at the stutterer bear.

After a few months the same awful men came back to the mountain range to build a hotel. But Willy didn´t give up, he saw how the hotel affected the fields, so he practiced the whole day to speak without a stutter so as to scare them away.

After a lot of effort, he did it.

And that is how Willy overcame his stutter and saved that magic place forever.

THE END

He saw liquid running out of the coconut, and was surprised by the white colour on the inside so different from the brown husk. Peter tasted the coconut and loved its flavour. So coconut became his favorite fruit.

But there was a bit of a problem. He had to wait until a monkey threw a coconut to the ground, otherwise he wouldn’t be able to break the hard brown husk to eat the white coconut inside.

One day Peter was tired of waiting for the monkeys to eat his favorite fruit, so he had an idea: “If I peck at the leaves the coconut might fall down to the ground and I won´t need the monkeys any more”.

And so he did and it worked! So, from that moment on, Peter never had to depend on monkeys to eat coconut anymore.

THE END

Every year in October, when autumn arrives Elmy gets very sad and stops smiling.

Elmy was a young perishable tree who loved having fun and joking with the other trees in the park where he lived. But every year when autumn arrived, Elmy’s leaves started to fall and he became sad.

One day one of his friends decided to throw him a surprise party to cheer him up. Soon, everything was ready for the party.

Elmy was about to go to bed – “Good night!” – he said to the rest of the Elms in the park. Suddenly, he heard music coming from his friend Play, a tree that could play music using his leaves and branches.

Elmy was totaly surprised, after all it was bed time and it made no sense to make music now. But the rest of the trees then started to dance and throw streamers into the air, and then one of them approached Elmy and said: “Today is your party, your autumn party, let´s have fun my friend!”.

“I don´t want to have a party, I just want to sleep”, said Elmy.

“Elmy, look at us, we are not sad, we also lose our leaves during autumn but when spring arrives we get new leaves, so you don´t have to worry about it!”.

One of the oldest elms in the park explained to Elmy the importance of deciduous trees in relation to the environment. They allow the sunlight to pass through them during winter and autumn, when the hours of sun are less.

So Elmy learnt not to be sad during autumn and enjoyed his party!

THE END.

In Space where the stars shine exist planets, and some smaller spheres that rotate around those planets. These spheres are called satellites.

The protagonist of this story is a satellite that rotates around planet Earth, and is called “The Moon”.

The moon is a big sphere, that used to be very arrogant and vain. She thought that she was the only moon in the universe, and she always thought: “I am the best! The only one chosen by the universe to exist!”.

She had never seen anything or anyone. She never talked to anyone because when she was awake she only saw a dark universe, and when she was asleep she couldn’t see the live universe.

One day, a little bird flew far from Earth up to the moon while she was asleep. The moon woke up from the noise of the bird´s wings and got really angry.

“That can´t be possible! I am alone in the universe!” – she said

– “Alone? take a look around you and see the rest of the universe.”- said the bird.

The moon realised that she was only a small satellite in a universe full of stars, planets and living beings. She never thought again that she was the only one that had been chosen by the universe, and understood that she had to be more modest and not think that she was the best.

She was no longer arrogant and vain and instead became a happy and modest moon, with a big smile that children could only see it if they really wished to.

THE END

In faraway mountains there was a magic river that turned everything near him into life.

The Stones rolling down from the road above were transformed into a huge trees next to the river. The broken branches that fell into the river turned into beautiful fish.

Nearby the mountains there was a village where the citizens used cars to move from one place to another instead of walking. They didn’t realise what would happen if they used the car all the time.

One day, an ugly cloud appeared and started to spit out acid rain that polluted the magic river, and, slowly, made everything around the valley die.

The river was scared and called all the animals around to tell them what to do. When they arrived, the magic river started to speak: “Animals from the valley, I need your help. A black cloud has invaded. You have to go to the village and tell the men and women that their cars are causing this disaster“.

The animals went to inform them, and so all the men and women had an assembly to discuss the situation. In the end, the Mayor told the citizens of his the new measures: “People from the town, from now on we will move on foot except to go to villages that are far away. If we let the valley die, we will die too”.

That is how, little by little, the black cloud disappeared and life came back to the valley, thanks to the village people who had understood that it was not right to use the car for short distances at the expense of taking care of the environment.

THE END
