Short Story for Boys and girls written by: Obed Madrid Calvo.

A gnome who lived in the forest, was at home boiling chestnuts in his cooking pot as it was the soup he really liked.

His friend, Mr.Snail appeared at the window and called out to him.

– “Good morning Happy Gnome” – greeted the snail.

– “Hello Mr.Snail, do you want to taste my chestnut soup?” – said the gnome.

– “Mmm, it smells really nice!”- the snail said.

Mr. Snail told the gnome about a place in the field where there were many chestnuts.

– “I found lots of them yesterday, when I went for a walk” – said the snail to the happy gnome.

The snail and the gnome finished their delicious breakfast and went to collect more chestnuts to have dinner together.

When they arrived, there were no more chestnuts . Somebody had already collected them.

– “There are no more chestnuts left! Where are they? Where are they?!” – screamed the gnome, angrily.

-“Don´t worry, I´m sure there are more somewhere near here, let´s have a look”.

They searched for chestnuts all over the forest until it started to rain. They looked for a place to shelter and saw a little wooden house. The door was open and they were wet, so the gnome said:

– “Let´s go in, nobody is inside”

-“We can´t go in without being invited” – replied the snail.

But the happy gnome did not want to get any wetter, so he put the snail on his shoulders and went into the house.

– “Mr.Snail! look! Here is a sack of chestnuts from the forest!” – the happy gnome exclaimed.

– “But somebody took them before us. They aren´t ours.” said the snail

But the gnome wanted all the chestnuts for himself, so he took the sack and left to walk in the rain.

Suddenly, a fork of lightning broke the branch of a tree, and it fell on the happy gnome. Mr.Snail, who was following him, tried to help him out from under it, but the branch was too big.

Then, a wise little rabbit appeared. He had seen what had happened at the wooden house, and helped the snail to move the branch.

-“Maybe, none of this would have happened if you had not taken those chestnuts, that are not yours.”

– “These chestnuts are mine, I have collected them!” – the gnome insisted.

Seeing that the gnome was not telling the truth, the rabbit took him back to the little wooden house.

-“Look, happy gnome, look through the window” – said the rabbit to the gnome.

The gnome obeyed and looked through the window. He saw a little mummy rabbit, sitting at the table with her three kids. They were sad because there was barely anything on their plates.

-“The mother rabbit had collected all those chestnuts for dinner, and now they only have four pieces of bread. Meanwhile, you have there enough chestnuts for everyone” – said the wise rabbit.

-“Yes! happy gnome!” – exclaimed Mr.Snail -“You can cook chestnut soup for everyone!”

The happy gnome realized that he had been wrong and so he went inside the house and apologised to the mother rabbit. She could see that the gnome was repentant, forgave him and accepted Mr.Snail’s idea”.

So, they all had the happy gnome´s delicious soup for dinner. They ate, laughed, played…and that is how they all became friends.

THE END

Click to read: GENEROUS FATTY (SECOND PART)

…The strange thing was that, the more vegetables he gave away, the more lettuces, chard, tomatoes, etc, were left in the wheelbarrow. And he was so happy to receive kisses, hugs and thankful words from the parents of his classmates who used to make fun of him calling him “fat”.

Next day he went to his vegetable garden to plant more seeds, but was shocked when saw that many vegetables had sprouted and that there were an endless number of chard, lettuces and tomatoes. It was incredible and his parents were astonished when he told them over dinner.

-“Lolo, we are so proud of you and of your good heart. Several mums have thanked me for the food you gave them yesterday. They said you are a very good kid, and Dad and I feel really proud of you. Besides this, you have lost some weight because your trousers and shirts are too big for you and so now you need smaller clothes”.

Over the following days, even though Lolo collected his vegetables every afternoon, the next morning the garden was full of vegetables, which Lolo happily distributed to his neighbors, helping many needy families, who were very thankful for Lolo´s generosity.

His parents were so surprised at these strange events, that they decided to go to the vegetable garden one night to discover what was going on while their son was sleeping.

They were astonished when saw many rabbits, mice, squirrels and birds working the land, directed by a very pretty blond fairy, that, who used her magic powders, to accelerate the budding process of the seeds that Lolo had been buying every afternoon using the money for the snacks and candies that he no longer ate.

One morning, when he woke up to go to school his mum almost fainted when she saw that Lolo was not a fat boy anymore. Thanks to the good fairy, he had turned into a handsome and slender student.

His mother hugged him and called his father. The three of them were really happy and later at school, the pupils and Mr.Adams, the teacher, congratulated Lolo who was not an alienated kid anymore but the most loved boy by his classmates.

Several years passed and Lolo grew to be a handsome and smart guy. His neighbors lent him land to sow all kind of vegetables and fruit trees. And the miracle of the food proliferation happened every day thanks to his work and goodness.

Those who know him will tell you that every afternoon, several trucks carrying food leave the small town were Angel lives with his parents, to bring happiness to hundreds of needy families from all the towns and cities around.

When John arrived home, he went to introduce his new friends to the car, but was so disappointed when none of the toys spoke.

-“What´s wrong? they´re not talking” – John said.

-“It´s normal, the toy fairy has not touched them with her magic wand. Call her”, said the car.

– “And, how do we do that?” – asked John.

– “Very easily, you just say the magic words, which are: toot, toot, toot, run run run, beep, beep, toy fairy…please appear now!”, said the car.

John said the magic words and suddenly, the toy fairy appeared in a beautiful racing car.

– “I´m here! Who is calling me?” – asked the fairy.

– “I did” – said John.

“How can I help you?” – asked the fairy.

-“I have bought new toys to keep my friend the car company, but they don´t talk. Can you make them talk?” – asked John.

-“No problem, but you have to do something first. I see you have many toys, and there are other children who don´t have any. You have to give one of your toys to a boy or a girl who doesn´t have anything to play with“.

-“I agree, that´s fair.” – said John.

John decided to give the boat to his friend and neighbor Tina who he used to play with sometimes in the park.

Tina did not have toys because her father and her mother didn’t have a job and the only money they had was for buying food and clothes. When John gave the toy boat to Tina she was very happy because there was a pond in the park and they could play there with her toy boat.

After giving Tina the present, John went back home where the fairy was waiting for him. Sitting on her racing car, she touched the toys one by one with her magic wand and they began to talk.

– “Hi!” – said the van.

– “Good afternoon!” – said the truck.

-“How are you?” – asked the toy plane.

This is how each of them introduced themselves. The car was happy, John was happy too, now, they had many friends to play and talk with.

From that moment, John and Tina became very good friends. He spent many hours playing with her in the park with the talking toys.

John won a very special friend and learnt that he was immensely happy to share what he had with others.

THEN END

Moral of the story: If you have a lot you may feel good or you may not. But if you share what you have, you will be doubly happy for sure. And you will also make another person as happy as you. And this is even more gratifying.

Values of the story: friendship, sharing what you have with others.

Once upon a time…

There was a kid called John who had a toy car that he used to take with him everywhere. It was his favourite toy.

One day he was playing with his car at home, when he heard a voice saying:

– “Don´t throw me so hard, I might break!”

John looked around to see where the voice was coming from. Nobody else was in the room and he was alone.

-“Here! It´s me, don´t you see me? I’m down here!” – said the voice.

John looked down and found that it was the small car talking to him, so, he said:

-“You can talk?”

-“Yes, like you” – the car answered.

-“But cars don´t talk!” – replied John.

– “I do” – said the car.

John was very happy, and from that moment, the boy and the car had long conversations and so much fun.

One day, John arrived home from school and ran into his room to see his friend the car. He asked him how his day had been, but the car didn’t say a word.

-“What´s wrong, dear friend?”- asked John.

– “I am a bit sad because when you go I have no other friend to talk to”

– “Don´t worry I will bring you some friends to stay with you” – John said.

John went to the toy shop the next day and with his savings bought a beautiful van, a big red truck, a racing motorbike, a sailing boat and a big yellow plane. John spent all his money….

Once upon a time…

There was a kitty called Blue, it was a carey cat with many colors like black, yellow…like a night of lots, lots of colors.

One day went to a house with his brothers and sisters, there were fewer cats because were giving them.

When the day finished Blue was still there, nobody wanted to take him. Weeks and months passed, but nobody wanted him, until the owner of the house got tired of the kitten and chased him out the house.

He was cold and hungry…one day, a girl with a flower on her head saw him and took him home with her. Took care of him, didn´t separate from him in any moment. When her mom arrived home and saw the kitty, hugged him until the next morning.

-“I don’t understand how could such a small cat live in the street” – said the mother to the girl.

But that does not matter any more, we already have our pet who makes us very happy, we have to take care of him, we don’t have to abuse him nor chase him out of the house. Because is a living being; besides he is a member of the family, we will give him so much affection and we will all live happily.

THE END

Moral of the Short Story: Animals are living beings, faithful and kind, give us so much affection and we have to give them affection too. Respect and take care of animals. Love animals.

Short Story for Kids written by: Laurita Vaquera (12 years old).

Once upon a time, there was a girl called Betty, who had a magic fairy called Mimi. One day, Betty arrived home from school, and found a cake at her house´s door, she loved cakes, so took it and brought it home.

She wanted to give Mimi a piece of the cake, but could not resist the temptation anymore and ended up eating the whole cake. But, what she did not know was that it was Mimi who had left the cake at the door.

Suddenly she sighed:

“Ooh! I would love to have a new school bag…”

And…a new school bag appeared. Betty was shocked, and said again:

“Ooh! I would love to have a Barbie…”

A barbie appeared suddenly. And she realized that the cake was magic.

The next day, she told to Mimi excitedly everything about the magic cake.

“Did you leave me a piece of the cake?”

And Betty said: “No, why would I, if you are a fairy, you can do magic yourself, don´t you?”

And the fairy got pissed off. Then, Betty said again: “I would love to have a ball” – but nothing appeared, said it again three times, but didn´t work. Went to ask Mimi.

“Do you know why my wishes are not fulfilling?”

And Mimi said: “Yes, I took the powers away”

Betty felt really bad, so bought a cake and gave it to Mimi, saying:

“Here, you have a cake, all for you, I´m sorry…”

“Thank you, but I am going to share it with you” – said Mimi.

Mimi shared her cake with Betty, Betty learnt the lesson, and they lived happily ever after.

THE END

Moral of the story: Sharing is important.

But one day, a woodcutter felled the tree and the Lucy was left without leaves, and was hungry.

Lucy began to cry, but another little ant called Melissa, who had lots of leaves, shared her food with her. Then they began to talk:

“Have these leaves and stop crying” – said Melissa.

“Thank you my friend, if something happens to you, I will help you too”

From that day on, they ate together everyday, shared their food and became very good friends forever.

Peter and Anna were one day going back home from school when they passed through a park and decided to stay there a while to enjoy the sunny day.

It was summer, birds were singing and the landscape looked beautiful. All the trees were leafy, green and beautiful but one.

There was one tree with no leaves and a sad appearance. The kids asked the gardener why the tree was so sad and he told them that it was going to be cut down the next day.

Peter and Anna went back home very sad. Peter told his wise grandma who encouraged him to talk to the tree. She claimed that the tree would talk back if he was a nice boy.

He ran to tell Anna and they went together to see the tree again. “We are your friends, why are you so sad? Please tell us how we can help you.” – said the kids.

But the tree was very quiet. The children turned around to walk back home when the tree said:

“Please don´t go.” – Peter and Anna looked at the tree shocked – “There is an orphanage in that corner over there, children come everyday to play with me, but I have heard that there´s no money to maintain the orphanage and they are moving to another place. I don´t want my friends to leave!”

Peter and Anna thought about a solution but after some minutes Anna started crying. Peter told the tree that they couldn’t do anything to save him or the orphanage.

But the tree had another plan. ” I will tell you a secret. I have a treasure under my roots. Come back at midnight to unearth it with my help and we can give it to the orphanage.”

And so the kids went back at midnight and took the treasure. The next morning they went to the orphanage and gave it to them. They explained how the orphanage was saved thanks to sad tree’s treasure.

The tree was so happy to have heled, that beautiful flowers and leaves emerged from his roots and he became the most beautiful tree in the park.

The tree was never cut down. The orphanage was remodelled and Peter and Anna were very happy. They had made the sad tree happy and also had a new friend.

“I´m not happy because nobody cares about me, nobody even notices the things I do for others” – replied the girl.

“That´s what you think, but there is always someone observing you up there and is happy because they know the nice things you do for others.”

“But I would like to see people be grateful.” – said the girl.

“Everytime you do something good, God is happy and proud of you.”

The girl decided to change her behaviour from that moment on, “I won´t complain any more but will just make my God happy”,

Time passed, and the girl grew and became a happy adult, involved in charity work, helping the sick and people in need. Everybody loved her.

When she grew to be an old woman she was surrounded by lots of people who loved her, and she died happily, satisfied with her life.

She went to heaven and is now there with the angels.

One day an old goblin was wandering around when he saw the house and decided to renovate it transforming the old house into a new and beautiful one.

He painted the walls in different colours, made a wooden bed a big table, and other necessary things.

One rainy day, the old goblin was sleeping peacefully when somebody knocked on the door. When he opened it, two young goblins trembling with cold were there begging for refuge.

– “Of course! come in, it´s too cold outside, you can stay as much time as you want.” – said the old goblin.

The young goblins were very thankful to the old man and decided to stay at the house to take care of him.

But the most surprising thing was that the two goblins were actually rich and built a big castle to live in with the old goblin so they could take in many other goblins who needed help.

THE END
