Short Story for boys and girls written by: Maria Antonia Llaneras.

Sarah and her grandmother Mimi were living in a big magic field in the heart of the cold valley surrounded by one hundred leafy trees, giant beeches, huge oaks, lofty pines and a bed of soft ferns that was home to many small, wild animals.

Her grandmother and grandchildren lived with their dog, Rufus, (who had long, cinnamon colored hair), in a deep cave in a hillside in the mountains. Natural caves were the best to combat the hard Russian winters.

There was a big opening at the entrance to the cave which was used as the kitchen and the living room had a chimney which included an oven.

The constant heat of the fire acted as a barrier against the frozen air outside.

Sara lived happily in the old field, surrounded by animals and birds, near a river called the Emerald river. The name came from the green emerald color of its cloudy wide watercourse which was full of emerald dust.

Rufus had woken up very early and was already diving in the river searching for pink salmon, catching them with skill in order to give one to his owner later. His owner hung them from the chimney to smoke them and then sold them in the Friday market.

Mimi was really proud of her granddaughter Sarah whom she had taught everything she knew. The Russian gypsy traditions were about ancient wisdom for survival and for finding food in the hardest and coldest forest on the planet.

Sarah was a merchant at the Friday market and was always accompanied by her close friend Violet, her sister and neighbour.

Both girls dressed up well that day. Sarah wore her special red fringed skirt and her white lace blouse. Her gold earrings and her red lipstick. Imported from China by Spanish gypsies, they made her look like a tanned princess.

Her close friend Violet, looked like a seventeen year old girl with her black boots, black coat and her colorful woollen hat and gloves, woven by her mum to sell at the market.

The two girls were tired of spending the whole winter in front of the chimney, eating hot chocolate and blueberry jam. They had gained a bit of weight but it didn´t matter. Spring was arriving and it was good to have extra fat in case they had to walk a lot through the field.

The Spring market finally arrived and all the gypsies were going to be there on Friday selling their goods. Spring had arrived in Rosemary city.

It was a sunny day at the end of May. It had stopped snowing, and the snow was melting really fast, there was water running throughout the forest and they had to be careful not to slip on the green, jelly-like moss that was all over the valley.

They could run without shoes, and that is what Sarah used to do. Her gold shoes were perfect for running, but without them, she felt free like a little rabbit.

THE END

…One day, before finishing the school year, a Count came to the school to announce that there was going to be a ball in the palace, in honour of the new graduates and that they must attend without exception.

The Girls in school went crazy. They started to call the best dressmakers to make the dresses of wealthy students before the ball. They wanted to be radiant because they all knew that the Count had a handsome son and that no girl in town had ever conquered him, so now was their chance.

The only thing that was talked about at school was the ball but Emma ignored it, she was only interested in finishing her studies the best way possible.

But Emma´s parents heard about the event and decided that as a reward for all her achievements Emma had to attend. So they organized a big surprise. Her mum sold as many rolls as she could and then bought the best cloth so as to make her a dress for the ball.

The day of the ball, Emma´s mum showed her the dress she had made with love for her. That was the moment when Emma´s beautiful eyes shined like the stars that the mountain could caress reaching up to the moon.

Emma jumped for joy, held her dress in her arms and danced with it all over the meadow. But Emma did not expected the strong wind to snatch the dress from her hands and carry it off and over the cliff where was impossible to climb down and get it.

Emma cried so hard. She felt she had betrayed her mother. Soon she fell asleep on the meadow. She had so many tears such that the afternoon sun reflected on those tears to form a most beautiful rainbow around her.

The light of that rainbow woke Emma up and what a surprise when she saw colourful little pieces falling from the rainbow all over her body making the most beautiful dress, creating a real work of art.

She shined so much that her parents went out to check what was going on, and found out that Emma was wearing the most amazing dress that anybody could ever imagine, and with her beautiful black hair and her pink cheeks she shined like goodness itself from the most beautiful fairy tale.

Her tears turned into sapphires, and her incredible blue shoes contrasted perfectly with her intense blue look.

Emma´s parents were shocked to see such beauty. Emma ran and ran through the meadow until she arrived at the Count´s house. All the guests and Emma´s classmates were perplexed to see Emma with pieces of rainbow clothing and her sapphire shoes lighting up the whole ballroom.

It was that day when Emma´s classmates learned not to judge people by the appearances, as pieces of rainbow clothing can rain over you when you least expect it.

The son of the Count fell in love with her and realised she was the woman of his life.

Even today, in that not too far away place, where the mountains caress the sun, the moon and the stars. Emma goes with her husband, the Count´s son, to visit her parents, to look after the sheep and to bake rolls. And to contemplate the moon, the stars and the warm tones that every dusk transform the sky into a painting.

THE END

Once upon a time…

There was a boy called John who really loved going to the beach. One day he went with all his family to spend the day on a beach nearby.

He enjoyed playing on the sand and in the water so much and was very happy to be there that day.

He was so happy that he could not stop smiling, rolling around in the sand and splashing around in the water, jumping and laughing without pause.

Then suddenly, he heard thunder and lightening. John was very sad to see a storm coming because it meant that he must go home.

His family had decided to spend several days in a house on the coast so they could enjoy going to the beach.

It was the most beautiful house they had ever seen; John was very happy because he could go to the beach more and play with his siblings.

After a while back at the house, he heard somebody knock on the door and went to open it. He was very surprised to see that his friends had come to spend the afternoon with him.

Now they were all together playing sailors, explorers and warriors, having fun in the house as they could not enjoy the sea that afternoon. John did not even realized that it had stopped raining, he was so happy playing with all his friends and decided to invite them more often.

THE END

Moral of the Short Story: You can find a good solution even if things aren´t as you want them to be.

One day, an old man went to ask her for food. She replied annoyed:

– “Do you think I have food to spare? Go and look for your own.”

Poppy closed the door really angrily.

She went to bed and look at her feet. She realised that they were swelling up and turning red like a tomato.

The next day the old man visited Poppy again but she chased him out and her feet swelled up even more.

One day a witch came to visit her and said:

– “Your feet are swelling for one reason and that is because you don’t share anything with the others, don´t be ambitious“.

From that day the princess started thinking. She thought and thought about what she had been doing and knew it was bad. As she really did not want to tease anyone, she changed and began to help poor people.

Soon the island was not poor anymore and everybody was happier. They all sang and danced and ate good food and they thanked the princess for her good behaviour.

New Short Story written by: Juanita Andrea Sánchez Vargas.

Once upon a time, there was a family and the daughter was called Julie. That girl was so naughty, and her mother did not want her being like that and was so sad.

Julie had a boyfriend called Luigi, who was always getting her on the right track, advising her not to be like that with her mom, to be a polite girl.

Julie told his boyfriend that her mom wanted her to marry a rich boy, but she loved him though, she did not care if he was poor, but she cared if he was respectful and kind.

Her angry mother tried to separate her from Luigi, so the whole family moved to other place: Canada.

Time passed, Juliet turned 29, and asked to see Luigi again as a present, as she did all her birthdays.

The next day, she met a rich boy called Edward, who asked for her hand in marriage. She accepted because her mom made her do it.

The day of the wedding arrived, the priest asked for somebody opposing the marriage when Luigi appeared saying he did. Julie asked:

“Who are you?”

“I am Luigi, don´t you remember me?” – answered.

She said yes, but he had changed so much. Luigi asked for her hand in marriage, she accepted and they finally got married. They moved to Europe, had two kids, a girl and a boy called, Juliet and John.

….And lived happily ever after….

THE END

Moral of the Short Story: Don´t be naughty with your mom. Be a good person, we have to obey your parents.

New Short Story for Kids written by: Luana Ferreyra.

Once upon a time, inside an old cafe situated in the streets of Paris, there was a beautiful woman. She was siting alone having a coffee, when suddenly a man came in and asked her if he could accompany her.

They had a nice coffee talking and laughing together, both left the place feeling in love. The man dedicated a poem to her, saying the next:

“You are my dream, you are my hope, you are a rose inside my heart”

After some time, the man asked her hand in marriage, and the woman said yes happily. Got married two weeks later, and after nine months had two beautiful kids, the boy was called Mark and the girl was called Elisabeth.

Eighteen years later, their son fell in love with a beautiful girl called Alice. Mark did not know how to demonstrate his love to her, so asked his father for advice.

His father told him that had to demonstrate his love always, doing things like, per example, writing poems: Mark liked the idea and wrote for her:

“Alice, Alice, you are beautiful like a rose, blooming and perfumed like a rose”.

The girl loved it, the Marc asked her to be his girlfriend. The girl was really happy because she was also in love with him, so, said yes.

After some time, Elisabeth fell in love with a boy from school. This boy told her that he loved her so much, but did it in a special way, with a mural. Elisabeth said yes to be his girlfriend. The boy was so happy that kissed her. Her parents allowed them being a couple.

And they lived happily ever after.

THE END

There was a beautiful place with sun, sea, sand, palms, called Barra vieja (Mexico). Where beautiful creatures with black eyes, gold skin, smelling nice like cinnamon and with blond hair, lived.

Their naked feet run and jump. Yes, they are the happy children from Barra Vieja.

Their favorite toys are a ball made of dry coconut and the traveller snakes made of twigs that protect them from the witch Yumba.

They also play with the moon and the stars to whom they consider their best friends. That is how the happy kids from Barra Vieja have fun.

Their conversations would surprise any orator. but the most sublime and tender is the love and respect the have to each other, without caring about age or gender.

They all meet up, talk, play. That is how kids from Barra vieja love each other.

And that is the end of the story…

Happy kids from barra vieja, I carry them in my heart.

Moral of the short story: The most beautiful soul is a child´s soul.

values of the short story: Happiness, Friendship, Love, understanding, and humility.

New Short Story for Kids written by: Carolina Mora Arévalo.

Once upon a time…

There was a lively and playful little girl called Naomi, her parents and her brother loved her so much, she was a blessing in the house, filling the house with happiness and laughs.

One day, when she finished school, the teacher called her mom to warn her that had noticed that something was not going well with the little girl. The parents rushed her to visit the doctor, who confirmed that she had a serious illness.

But the little did not give up, and decided to fight against the illness, she was actually very fragile, was only three years old, but motivated her parents and her brother to don´t give up due to her bravery and her battle.

She had to get many medical treatments and studies, nevertheless her strength and determination helped the family to not shatter. Nomi not only overcame her fair to injections, she finally overcame the disease.

She is today stronger than ever, nothing can destroy her; and the most important, she has never lost her joy. She is a warrior, fragile as crystal, and and example of life to everybody.

She taught us that there is nothing we cannot overcome; and each child of the world should be a “crystal warrior” as she is.

THE END

Short Story written by: Ana Clara de la Barrera.

Josh was a lonely man who used to spend most part of the day sleeping. His shadow, used to make the most of it during the night, and when Josh was sleeping deeply, the shadow used to go out and have fun.

One night, he was not able to sleep and saw his shadow going out through the window. He waited angry for her, until she came back home.

When the shadow saw Josh, tried to run to the door, but Josh shut her up inside a glass jar.

Josh was sleeping while his shadow was suffering inside the jar.

– “I like you being at my side, but I just can be happy if you are happy too. I prefer to let you go, if your happiness means being far from me. I know I will suffer at the beginning, but I guess i will feel better after some time”. – said while opened the jar.

When Josh saw his shadow again it was autumn, and the wind was playing with the dry leaves. His shadow was making the kids laugh on a brick wall, telling improvised stories. He was shocked, his shadow was amazing, and he missed her:

– “Why did she not want to stay with him?”

Looked around, every single person around had a shadow behind, he felt so lonely and sad, and some tears ran down his cheeks. Suddenly, somebody stopped behind him and gave him a handkerchief; it was the shadow. Josh was confused, he did not understand why the shadow had gone, and now was back. The shadow told him a story making him cry with joy.

Josh realized that the shadow did not want to be behind him, because he was already behind, that is to say that he had turn the shadow of a man he had been once, but was not any more. From that day on, the shadow and Josh walked together, side by side, and they were together because they wanted to be.

And that id the end of the story…

Moral of the story: Pure love is free, we can not force the love to be by our side. Love begins loving ourselves.

Values of the Story: Love, freedom, self-confidence, friendship, imagination.

Short Story written by: Juan Pablo Urcola (Buenos Aires – Argentina)

Thao and Theo were friends and neighbors, and, if this were not enough, they were also school mates, and they sat together in class. they were always together, playing together, eating sweets and chocolates together, went to ride their bikes together around the park and made some prank together.

One day, Thao went to look for Theo to his house; it was saturday, but nobody was there. Then, thao remembered that Theo had told him a few days before, that every saturday afternoon, he used to go with his uncle to the countryside to visit his grandparents, where they had always lived.

Thao became sad thinking about that, for two obvious reasons; the first one was because Theo was not at home, so they could not go skating around their neighborhood; and the second one was because, unlike Theo, his grandparents were living very far away and it was too difficult to visit them. This encouraged Thao to write a letter to his grandparents with the help of his parents:

“Dear grandparents, Sissi and Lolo, I really miss you, and I would like to see you soon. Mom and dad send greetings and a big hug for the two of you. I have a friend called Theo . We always play and have fun together. I will take him with me when I visit you, so you can know him. I hope your are right, I love you. Take care, big kisses. Thao”.

The next day, Theo went to look for Thao to his house, but there was nobody at Thao´s house. Theo remembered then, that Thao had told him days before, that every sunday afternoon, he used to go with his mom around the city collecting old magazines and newspapers recycling to use them for craftwork, which Thao´s mom used to sell at her shop.

Now was Theo who was sad thinking about that, for two obvious reasons too: the first one, because Thao was not at home, and so he could not meet Theo´s grandparents who had come from the countryside. And the second one was that, unlike Thao, his mother was living very far away due to her job, and was very difficult to visit her. This encourage Theo to write an email with his computer with the help of his uncle:

“Hi mom, how are you?, I miss you a lot, that is why I’m writing you. My grandparents are at home with me, Uncle really cares about me and sends greetings for you. Today I could not go out to play because Thao is not at home, he helps his mom every sunday to collect old newspapers for her recycling studio. I would like to go out with you some day, In the meanwhile, take care. Big kiss, I love you, your son, Theo”.

The next day it was monday, Thao and Theo met each other on their way to school. During break time, Thao told Theo what he had done on saturday and Theo told his friend what he had done on sunday. They both realized that their experiences lived during the weekend made them get more close to their loved ones living far away. Because their incredible friendship; laughs, games, words, plans. The inseparable pair was united again.

Live friendship!

THE END
